Title: cooker
Post by: diyjoe on 12 June 2012, 06:58:44
Got this 240v hotpoint cooker mod fitted in the boot for picnics ????  ;) Problem is the element needs replacing which is simple enough, but the rigid insulation covers which are like a plastic tube about an inch long covering the wire to element terminal connection  have gone brittle and crumbled away. Unfortunately Hotpoint don't supply the insulation covers as a spare and can give no suggestions. Does any one know of any high temperature tubing I could use as a replacement. Have thought of high temp insulation tape if there is such a thing, or wrapping the terminals in glass cloth. I am sure there are omega owning cooker engineers on this forum that could come up with a suggestion or two.

Heatshrink would be ok, its available as a high temperature version (e.g. Kynar which is good for continuous tempos of 150 Deg C and shock temps of 250), available at most decent electrical places or even on the bay of E.

Alternative would be to use some high temperature sleeving (good for 180+)
