Title: MOT time - part 2
Post by: bigpaul on 17 June 2012, 09:48:12
ok guys,

I have a few more concerns to be honest I am uncertain whether to address them before or after the MOT failure  ;D

I use MOTEST in swindon and they operate a no pass no fee system initially but am I really just being lazy ?

so the handbrake might fail ?  It holds on 7 clicks

Advisory Notice issued on last years MOT 24 June 2011

Steering column top bearing slightly worn (2.1.2c)

Nearside idler arm Steering pivot point has slight play (2.2.B.1g)

Nearside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Offside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Windscreen has damage to an area less than a 40mm circle outside zone 'A' (8.3.1d)

N/s/f brake pad warning wire hanging loose

Rear brakes imbalanced 50%

yeah I know Im asking a lot and im lazy :-[ but any advice as to whats best to do would be much appreciated :y

if it was me i would.
1) n/s & o/s front brake pipes clean up and apply some grease or copper slip to them.

2) brake pad warning wire make secure.

3) adjust rear brakes ( see maintanence guide ).

and see how you go from there IMO  ;)

As Noel said! Simple jobs, just have a look through the guides.
The steering arm might still be ok to pass but I would do it as soon as you can.
Btw, 50%??? Another car I have failed at 23%!!!

Bit late but would have thought the best advice would have been to rectify these faults over the past 12 months ???

there is hope for you ;)
we all had to start somewhere, most of the advisories you have listed are doable,by reading the maintanence guides on this forum, and asking questions is how you learn. The money you will save will bring a smile to your face & a great sense of satisfaction when done :y
