Title: Help Please Alarm fault after main car battery change
Post by: markspark on 19 June 2012, 11:37:41
HI all I’m asking this question for my dad who is currently 300 miles away on holiday
So I only have limited info. He has changed to main battery on his 02 plate 2.2 petrol omega and since doing this he’s had a problem with the alarm on his car, when he locks the car up and walks away from it around 1-2 mins later the alarm will go off and nothing will stop it, he unlocks the door and starts the car with the alarm still sounding it does stop eventually but leaves the 4 way flashers flashing he says the only way he can stop it is to take a 30Amp fuse out from under the bonnet and then replace it all is ok then until next time he locks the car, this is all the info I have can you shed any light on this for him please
TIA

Sounds like his powersounder is acting up.

Id remove that, as they can go on fire, which isnt fun.

Id also check the bonnet plunger switch isnt bent down and not making proper contact.  you can just unplug it to test, the alarm will still function.

does removing the power sounder disable the full alarm ie no 4 way flashers i wouldnt see this as being a problem as the car is still immobilsied

no there are 2 sounders, normal horn, and powersounder with self contained batteries.
its just that one you need to remove.
