last friday there was an unplanned trip to İstanbul for several reasons.. generally I prefer not to take any cars as I dont know the roads of İstanbul..but I had to go several places so taxis would be expensive there.. so for cost and parking reasons I took the small car..
on the road Tomtom really helped me and it would be hell of a mess without it as I experienced from the last visit..
its another kind of huge city around 9-10 million population.. and you could easily be lost without a trace ;D
I took the pictures (with mobile 5mp ) inside the car on the road while driving with my shaking hand so their qualities may not be as expected but there was not much time to stop .. :-\

I left İstanbul at 9 30 from the other side.. it took me an hour to pass the bridge and another half hour to leave İstanbul..
on the road back there was repair on the autobahn (not cheap) so we left at some point use another road and then back to autobahn at İzmit.. I reached home at 02 am .. total driving time 3 hours for 450 kms.. you can estimate I dont drive slow ;D

Great pictures cem. Looks like a great and interesting city. :y Like most continental cities I presume many residents live in apartments, so you don't get miles of urban sprawl like you do in the UK?
I'm a country boy at heart, so I don't mind visiting big cities for a small time, a day or two is enough, then I'm happy when I'm leaving.
I've never been to Turkey, it is on my list of places to visit. My next door neighbour has an apartment in Altinkum, so once I'm in the Ukraine, I will pay them a visit with my family. Once they have sold their house in the UK they want to buy a villa in Turkey to live there for 6 months and a small house in England for the other 6 months.

yep.. most of the residents live in apartments.. the problem for İstanbul is mostly workers buy/rent homes in Anatolia part where prices are more logical.. so they have to pass bridges (if they have car) or use ships+busses which in any case tiresome in cold months.. especially bridges have messy traffic and you have to wait.. 3rd bridge is going to be built soon and an underwater tunnel is under construction. I hope soon these will be finished.. :-\
Altinkum is in Didim.. and its a nice place.. there are many alternative places when you have to buy a home in south.. msg me when they need help :y
