Post by: The Barge Captain on 24 October 2006, 14:48:58
Anybody signed up for membership of the dark side and recieved a Vx trade card?  Is it worth doing?  Cheaper then Autobahnstormers though.

not yet, but thinking about it,
need a 2nd attempt at blagging a 'real' one first
failed miserably yesterday, our Lookers said we dont do the trade accounts here, you need the other branch - no showroom, just depot, so will try there next time.
It goes against the grain to give vxon money, but you do get a halfords one as well which you dont with migweb (also £15).

Tempted myself if only for the TC, trouble is they will probably expect you to be a regular on the site surely.

I've came from the Dark Side but find the site much less user friendly.

I know it costs £15pa but what are the % discounts offered by Halfords & Vauxhall with a Trade Card?

It varies depending on what you buy.....

Halfauds.....tools.....20% discount
                 batteries 50% discount
                 bulbs.....nearly 85% discount

Vx             Oil semi synth 5l £17.15+vat retail.......£7.92+vat TC but you also get 5l free if you buy 3x 5l.....so works out at about £7 for 5l including vat if you buy 20l
Air filters £13.40+vat retail      £8.27+vat TC
Fuel filter (petrol) £12.50+vat retail   £5.16+VAT TC

To show a few examples........so definately worth it  :)

But should point out not everything is available on vx TC card or at Halfauds......its mainly popular service items......so ie you cannot go and buy a push bike or air freshener from Halfauds and use the trade card.

Similar at vx......its only popular service items....and as i just noticed you have a 2.2 chopsdad, for some reason a 2.2 crank sensor isnt a 'popular' service item so you pay full price for it......but if you have any other size engine.....it is on TC card.....work that one out!  :-?

What was the part number for you crank sensor TD?

Was it 10456515....if so it is on trade club at 25+VAT.....look under Frontera at the Y22SE/X22SE engine...its the same with the V6 Omega water pump....its only listed under the Vectra but, its the same part.

Out of interest, could we not contact Vauxhall, Halfords etc and see if they would allow us to get/issue Trade cards?. I mean we are heading for 500 members by Xmas.  Do they have special trade requirements?. The fact I am going to have to buy cambelt/tensioner/Oil/filter etc in the near future, is entirely conicidental!. I used to get a discount from Leicester Vauxhall, mainly because I kept buying lots of bits there, and got to know one chap well.

To get Vx Trade Club status means jumping through a number of hoops. One of those is that we have to become a club and charge members a fee...

AFAIK the front pipes on Police spec were heavier guage and (possibly) double skinned, in case the beastie grounded or skelped a kerb or similar.  Apart from that, no difference.    :-/
