Hello all!
I know it has been covered in many posts, but here I go....
Apparently, the coilpack on my 3.0 V6 died out today. Car was running perfectly yesterday, and today it runs like a VW bettle >:( >:(
Tested it by pulling out the ignition leads, and it seems like cylinders 3 and 6 are not working.
I couldn't pull the leads all the way out, only 1-2 cm, and when I do so, I get tick noise (presumably when spark 'jumps' from lead to spark or surrounding metal) on cylinders 1,2,4 and 5. On 3 and 6, there is no such sound.
I'm almost 100% sure that the coilpack has failed, but wanted to double check before buying a new one (BTW. new one here is over 300€).ž
Thanks!

I had a similar problem last year. The only way to be sure is to actually take the coil pack out of the car. I only examined mine by torchlight and couldn't see the damage so went about replacing spark leads, plugs only for the problem to persist.
I think you will have to remove it to find out what type you have before you can order a replacement. You will need the part number.
I replaced mine with a used one from a breaker.

Only when you take it out and it looks like this you know its for the bin :y

in some places it would be classed as art. ::)

Take care with only a visual check - when mine went, visually it looked perfectly ok but a replacement cured my misfire.

I've managed to pull out the coilpack. It's a 0221503010 (square connector).
It seemed visually OK at a first sight, but then I noticed a small crack between cylinder 3 and cylinder 6 plugs -> I suppose that this is the reason that for failure.
I will post a picture in a few hours.
Anyways, found several e-bay stores in germany, offering original BOSCH coilpack for around 130€.

Just replaced the coil (installed new original BOSCH unit), and it still doesn't fire on cylinder 3 and 6!
What could it be?
The cables are connected correctly....
help :'( :'(

what are your spark plugs like?
-
I'm sure that they are good. I've replaced them 15000km ago.
Also, I'm still not getting a spark on cylinders 3 and 6. As said earlier, when I pull the cable lead of the spark plug, there is a knocking sound, on all cylinders except 3 and 6.
Perhaps the coilpack isn't getting the correct signal -> only gets the signal to 'fire' the 1-4 and 2-5 coils?
PS. I'm not getting any codes (did the paperclip test).

Move the HT leads, see if the miss-fire changes :y

Check your plugs again ;)
I had a HT problem earlier this year.
Knackerd lead had burnt out the centre electrode on a plug ;)
-
Both plugs and plug leads are quite new.
Also, I mounted a spare lead and plug, and it doesn't give a spark on 3 and 6, either.
So, definitely, coilpack is't giving a spark on 3 and 6.
After checking the coilpack cable (this is a signal cable, with 4 wires), I have seen the following:
- the coilpack connector has been tampered with - it is tapped all over
- there is one wire that is coming out the coilpack connector loom (its connected to just one of the wires in to loom), and it goes to LPG installation -> been told that this is used for turning on the LPG at certain revs
There is one thing that I'm very afraid now -> could there be any kind of short-circuit or similar in this loom, which could cause a brand new coilpack to burnout instantly???

The car is finally fixed :D :D
It turned out that ECU unit was bronen, so they replaced the faulty componenet, and the car is working fine now.
So, buying a new coilpack was a mistake, but, hey, at least I don't have to fear of coilpack failiure for some time ;)

Very unusual to see those Motronic 2.8.x ECUs fail in any way :o

I know. I was amazed with this, too.
Hope all will be well now.
