Title: ccr2006
Post by: pauls on 27 June 2012, 11:13:07
Hi I have removed the stereo out of the car and left it for 1hr and then put it back in.
The cd player works great now but the radio still looses or cant hold a channel.
I think it was about a hour but I did not have to recode it. Should i redo this and leave it longer or has the radio part had it. If it has can I get another working radio and just add it to my cd player.

I'd of checked that the cars connector was providing two lots of 12v whilst it was out as it sounds like you have a problem with ignition controlled live, still worth checking all the cars fuses and any on the back of the stereo too.
Otherwise might be an internal fault with the stereo.

If you are receiving a station at all, then I would be looking at the aerial and not the radio for a fault.

Easy way to confirm, pull the radio out of the dash, leaving everything plugged in except the antenna. Tune into a  known radio frequency. Hold something mettallic  (screwdriver) near the centre pin of the aerial connector on the radio and see if you get sound - if you do, the radio is working. If you get a signal with a wet finger over the radio aerial socket, then your radio has a very good tuner.

Screen aerial is crap, even when working correctly, and when it goes wrong, makes it very difficult to pick up anything. External aerial is the best way to go.

arial wire can get damaged, would need to test the wire to see if its still ok.

Really? are you sure thats not the phone aerial? And if it is an FM aerial, exactly how did you check the internal amplifier inside the aerial base, the bit that always gets saturated and packs up?
