Title: Screwfix.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 27 June 2012, 19:57:59
Out of the goodness of my heart I ordered Mrs Opti a  swan-neck tap for her kitchen sink.

I placed the order at four in the afternoon, and it arrived extremely well packaged at ten the following morning.

The total cost was £56.......and it looks all but identical to the one Homebase are currently selling for £169 :o :o :o :o

Screwfix. Pretty good I think...........unless you know better. :y :y :y :y

I find them quite good as well, although like all other shops they are only cheap for some things and ridiculously expensive for others. I guess it just pays to shop around, but they've done me no harm before. I always give them a check before I deal with others

Homebase are a rip off, every thing they sell is always more than the competition.

Agreed. Even when they have their 15% off offer. Taking the piss methinks.

I have one across the road from my office, every single time I've gone in to look for something I've been disappointed, the store is dirty and their bathroom range is all shite, its all very cheaply made but very expensive.

Got quite a few things from Screwfix, including my Matika drill, great price  :)

Went to buy  dehumidifier not too long ago. Homebase were £75 over RRP!! When I spoke to the woman on the helpdesk and showed her the manufacturers UK site, she retorted.. "we don't price match other stores.." I replied.. "it's not another store, it's the maker of the product telling the consumer what the expected price should be.." She replied "..we don't price match those!"

Bought it online in the end for almost £75 LESS than the RRP.

Not completely, they used to sell fat max tape measures for £16 when every1 else was nearer £30. Obviously a cock-up but I love getting one over on these rip off merchants

I have a B&Q 8 metre VALUE tape. Cost about £4 and works well enough...........although it's not solid enough to maintain a lengthy erection. ::) ::) ::) ;)

I have always found screwfix great for stuff like screws nails etc well priced, delivered, and good for the specials. It is a pain in the arse going to an outlet and looking through catalogue, the assistants are there to take the order, usless for help and info.

Didn't the founder of Screwfix sell out a few years ago and start another similar business

Nearly right it was 2 brothers who setup screwfix and 1 of the brothers sold his share then went off and setup toolstation. screwfix and b&Q both now owned by kingfisher. Sorry I only know this because I now work for screwfix..
