Title: Not drivej car for 10 days and now door wont open
Post by: SMD on 30 June 2012, 07:12:14
Been working last 10 days so not had chance to drive car and today thought I would take it to work but couldn't get in. When the key is pressed, it light up so can't be battery in key. Can't open door with key either. I have a spare but did not have time so will try this in the evening.

Could the car battery be flat, its a 1 year old GM battery.

Battery is more than likely flat. Use the key, it will be hard to turn but try thr handle as your turning the key ;)

Tried the key too but wouldn't open. I turned it to about 3 o clock position, can I turn it more? I will try the key/handle when I get home. The pin seemed to struggle when I turned they key though.

You should be able to get into  the boot with the key. If you can, try removing the boot light and connecting a battery or jump leads to the terminals then pressing the button.
It's fiddly but that'll get you in.

Cheers for the replies, got the door open. Battery is flat as a pancake which is slightly worrying because I have left previous cars standing for longer periods without problems.

Any interior lights left on? Boot, ashtray, glovebox?

If possible, get a multimeter, measure the current draw, and pull fuses one at a time to see if any make a difference :y

Excellent tip opening the boot and charging the battery via the boot light,  i actually had the reverse   i removed the inner plastic valance from the boot while cabling up my amateur radio fittings and forgot to replace the plastic valance and the battery went dead after three days...the boot light stayed on because the valance was not there to push in the boot light switch... :-[

Thanks again for all the comments, apologies for not responding to all comments. Using my phone to reply hence short replies.

Got the car running today, sunroof is acting funny though. Not opening and closing unless I push the sunroof button. Does it need resetting?

Yes, sunroof and windows need resetting after very flat battery.

Ditched the powersounder last month. Reset the windows, just need to do the sunroof. Is there anything else that needs resetting.

Trip computer would have rest itself. Radio stations *should* remember, but don't always. Sounds like do the sunroof, and you're good to go :)

If its the original, yes.

(from a technical viewpoint, most likely not shared by your insurance company)

Unless you concentrate on the "fire" part of the policy ;)
