Title: New Owner Elite 3.0i 24V Automatic
Post by: robnobrakes on 05 July 2012, 05:34:03
Just bought this car yesterday for my wife.  This 1997 Elite has covered 56,000 miles from new with FSH (15 stamps in the book).  2 former owners, the first had the car for 2 years, the second for 13 years.  The car is immaculate apart from some stone chips at the front and minor rust to the rear wheel arch lips.  All the paintwork is original, amazing for a 15 year old.  Even the edges of the doors are chip free.  No kerbing at all on the alloys.  Tyres are Pirelli P7's.  The spare has never been used, fitted with a Michelin.  The car has obviously been cherished.

In the last pic, it looks like you have yourself a very rare and expensive Irmscher steering wheel.  A very nice find!  :y

Pretty sure the 3.0i and 24v badges are from a Carlton or Senator, and would not have been standard.  :y

Yes the boot would have had only the VX badge and the Elite. Identical to mine.

Really good condition for its age so a great find .

Interesting comment about the steering wheel.  It is certainly comfortable to use.

You chaps know more about these cars than me.  I had assumed the badges were standard.  On my wife's last car I took the badges off the boot  :)

The colour is metallic green, but also looks blue in different light, almost like a faint flip paint.  I agree it's a stunning colour 8)

£995 is top money........but it appears to be a well looked after low mileage car, that should give years of reliable service. :y

I did buy from a trader, not privately, and he gave me what I wanted for my wife's old car.

:y :y :y  There are much cheaper Omega's I agree, but those cars are generally well into 6 figure mileages, probably had numerous owners, and are unlikely to be crash free cars sporting original paintwork.  My wife's 2 owner car was bought with 12 months MOT, from a trader, who has to make a profit ;)  There are no knocks from the suspension, and car drives almost like a new car.  There is not a single rattle or squeak from the interior trim, and no discernable wear on the leather seats.  The luxurious quality of the interior trim, particularly the doors, is in a different league to the cheaper looking trim on the facelift cars IMHO ;D.  Everything works on the car, including the CD autochanger in the boot.  Pirelli P7 tyres less than half worn all round, not some cheap rubber ::)  The spare wheel and Michelin tyre have never been used.

For me, £995 is a bargain ;D

Rob, I couldn't agree more!  :y  At the end of the day, £995 is nothing nowadays.  Certainly less than a month's wages for most, and less than many spend on their annual holiday in the sun.  Your car would have cost over £30k new if it was on sale today, so in that respect it's an absolute bargain.  Unfortunately the general public run a mile from big petrol engined motors like this, and their values have nose-dived in recent years.  Crazily though, it's the members of this forum that seem to value them evn lower than most, something I'll never understand!!  The good news though, is that there are some proper bargains to be had, and yours is a perfect case in point! Well done sir!!  :y
