Picking up the CD today, now i am going from an Elite to this and am trying to think about the 'toys' i will be short of, so far i have got:
The car i am getting is a 2001 2.6 CD
Rear blind
Self levelling suspension
Xenons & headlamp wash
CCR2006
Cruise
heated rear seats
Leather
Mamory on the seats
Self dipping rear view mirror
is there anything that i have missed
In addition will a pre facelift rear spoiler fit a facelift?
-
Cruise is easily sorted
The fisher price CD is single slot only
Worst is no sunroof
-
I think cruise and Xenons are the only two I'd really miss, and they're not too bad to retro-fit. Does CD have a sunroof? (not something I'd miss personally).
Mamory on the seats
I'm interested in that option, though. Doesn't appear to be fitted to my MV6 :'(
;)

Mines got a sunroof
The odd thing is it looks like it has CDX wheels on it

it was a retro fit by the seems of it....the car spent some time in Bristol....and we all know what that place is famous for :y
-
cruise a doddle to fit
sunroofs leak
uprate the bulbs
use an ipod/mp3
tint the rear (blind and dip mirror sorted)
dont let othhers drive it (memory seat fixed)
pick up leather from a breakers if really wanted

is it off ebay or trader? i thought i'd seen what i was sure was a CDX, given the wheels and other "stuff" but it was advertised as a CD and is on the book as a CD

Yet to see a factory fit one leak.

Been over to have a look at it tonight
Plus points:
Its a CDX, so it has CCR2006, Xenons, sunroof and a few other little trinkets. 96,000 miles
Bad poins:
The engine is knocking its nuts off :o no oil pressure
The front bumper has had a but if a tangle with something and taken out the fog light
So this weekend we start stripping the lump, at this point in time if we find anything else major wrong with it then it is being stripped for parts, so it is really 50/50
some pics
(http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/6065/dscf2369wr7.jpg)(http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8782/dscf2372rt3.jpg)(http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/9481/dscf2370uk9.jpg)(http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/544/dscf2371wf8.jpg)
So the shopping list so far:
1 x 2.6 engine
1 x rear shelf with blind in black
1 x facelift front bumper
1 x Facelift fog light
1 x LPG kit
Elite rear spoiler
The plan is to get it all on the road, LPG'd and completed for less than £2.5k and then enjoy again
-
Should have kept yours till it died, and the tax was cheaper ::)
-
......so whats the thinking on oil pressure ( light on?)
Bottom end /sump clean up first?
( which reminds me - i am doing the same tomorrow on v6 Vectra....2.6 ::)
-
Jay - this seams like a lot of work? :-/
Your current motor goes fine, no issues?
From my point of view your buying a car thats a dud? It needs new engine, bumper all kinds, but its only slighlty newer by plate?
You current car will not be affected by the 2009 tax rules, so i find it strange to see you changing cars?
Unless this is a project only?

But it does have 60k less on it :-/ with potential cash positive ?

My thinking is this....
If its a 2.6, and its just got 60k on it. Why does the engine have a BIG nocking sound? Has it been abused?
Since i started maintaining my 2.2 myself, it runs soooo much better than when i first got it. Bought it with 84k, its now on 108k.
It runs better with 25k more on the clock! :o
My worry is other bits? exhaust will prob need doing... brakes? discs? pads...
We all know the V6 are very robust and easily do 200K + if looked after, even neglected they can reach 120k easy.
I would be wondering what else is wrong :-/
Course i don't know the price you paid, it could be silly money in which case being a CDX, i would break it!
If the interior is cream, first dibs on the rear blind! ;)

Currently these are fetching £2.5k on autotrader, and that's not including a gas kit
So far to buy it £520
We may have sourced a low mileage 2.6 engine for £500
LPG kit £1200
bumper, blind & fog light £200
So thats £2.4k and it's gassed up as well.
It's got 96,000 miles and i would imagine it has had a hard life, hence the engine fail, tomorrow it goes on the ramps and will be looked over to see what else needs doing, if there is nothing else them it's going to repair and put back on the road, if there is anything else major then it will be broken.
The interior is black/grey
-
I'd have a look at the oil pressure relief valve before stripping it, although if it's knocking it needs stripping anyway, TBH.
Shame about the bumper. >:(

They maybe that price on autotrader, but are they selling?
You got a bargin there, so there is loads of money to be made there. Don't mess about trying to fix the current one, source a known good one.

I suspect DIY eBay kit he fitted to his 2.5 Elite, same kit JamesV6 used

people could think of me a slightly mad but let me explain......
I spend a lot of time in my cars, because of this, or possibly because of my general interest in cars but i don't buy cars to make money, however i do like to spend time fixing them as well was driving them.
I have been watching a few cars on both autotrader and Ebay, good ones are fetching 2250-2500 now the plan was to take this, fix the engine. get the rest of it straight and then use it in the same way that i did the Elite, ie up to about 150,000-160,000 and then start again, bearing in mind that will be 2 years worth of motoring for me.
Now in that time i will spend a lot more that the car is worth, i spent over 8K in 2 years on the Elite :o however that does include petrol and gas as well as servicing costs, so i have budgeted for that as well.
In answer to the 'why not buy a car that is newer? Simple, in 2 years time with 150,000 miles on it, i will still be able to get 1-1.5K for it my loss will be nominal, where as to buy a secondhand car with 30K on it (10K) and then put 50k on it in 2 years will devalue it sooo much i would lose much more on face value.
I could get to the garage tomorrow and find that the diff is on ots way out of it needs discs and pads all round, something as simple as that could be the end of the road for it, or it could run again for another 100K if we rebuild it.....
who knows

Professionally fitted 80l tank, will take 4 days, a company in plymouth will do it for me.
I don't have the time to do a DIY job again, however i would love to save £400 in doing so

Would you mind PM'ing me details/phone number ???
Be appreciated :)

Sounds like a well thought out plan :y lets cross fingers for tomorrows health check ;)
-
Well we have been over it today.....
On the whole this has been looked after, it has full dealer service history up to 86,000, and a stack of receipts to back up its mileage.
The engine is goosed on many levels though, it runs on 4, backfires like mad and sounds like a skeleton is playing with himself in a metal oil drum!!!
we tried checking the oil level and condition but the dipstick has welded itself to the tube!!!!
had a quote for repairing the bumper, again we have saved some money there and will still have it looking good.
Progress will be slow with this due to the fact that my friends garage is fully booked for the next 2 weeks and i will be doing some of the labour, i will however be posting pics up as we progress.
So it's been saved, now the challenge is to bring it in within budget :y

how math for fit kits lpg I can hawe kits but Im not really now about lpg

I wonder what happened to it if it has FSH? Then again, with 20k oil changes it's neglected in my book even with FSH. ::)
Sounds like a 2nd hand 2.6 lump would be the best plan unless you fancy a real challenge. Depends if the bores are OK to be honest, and that's starting to sound unlikely. Crank grind / polish and new bearings plus a hone and new piston rings won't be too much but if you start thinking about a re-bore and new pistons it will get prohibitively expensive. Then the cam journals may well have damaged the heads... :-/
How has the dipstick welded itself? Plastic bit at the top melted?
Kevin

Over bore to 87.5 and drop a new crank in - instant 3.2

Oil changes, I misread the manual on my Sunbeam and it had 10,000 mile changes - rather than 5,000 - and it was still fine at silly mileage - I used Esso in it

A mate just bought 3.2 veccy-c with fsh, inc the stupid 20k servicing. Unsurprisingly, the oil cooler is fubar.....

Mamory on the seats
I'm interested in that option, though. Doesn't appear to be fitted to my MV6 :'(

`Good to keep abreast of things! ;D

am i right i thinking that FWD V6 engines will fit in the Omega so long as the sump is swapped over?
and all the other ancils as well?

Yes, needs most bits changing though including exhaust manifolds....
-
that's not a problem....
My engine thagt i was supposed to be getting has fallen through, however i have access to a FWD V6 and was pretty sure it would go in so long as all the RWD stuff was transplanted.
so that would mean
Rocker covers
Manifolds
Plenium
Sump
Aside from that i would imagine all the other stuff would be the same....

Cam covers (optional, you might prefer to keep the metal ones ass uming its a 2.6)
Exhaust manifolds
Cam belt cover (front wheel drive ones have a stability bracket that attaches through this)
Engine mounts
Aux mounts (aircon/PAS) and components
Sump pan (upper and lower)
Possibly the wiring loom.
Plenum
Flywheel/flex plate (dont forget the spigot bearing if auto/manaul)

well i have sourced a 2.6V6 out of a 02 reg veccy, done 56,000 miles and they are sending me the service history with the engine to back it up.
That will arrive on tues, the engine will go on a stand, be cleaned, the old engine removed parts swapped over, the LPG injectors drilled into the inlet and then it will go back in......
Whilst the engine is out the cambelt & tensoners, waterpump, rocker cover gaskets and breathers will be replaced, genuine exhaust manifold gaskets used and the engine bay given a bit of a spruce up as well....

3.0 or 3.2 cams?

3.0 or 3.2 cams?
well that's the query.......what fits and works?
nothing has ever really been tried and tested have they?

I have heard of a few things just to say when I do the head off I will be recamming as I will get a 2 at the front of the power, I want to take on the office manager at a drag strip (RWYB) and win.
He has a R32 2.0 turbo auto Skyline.
A few of us at work want a go but only 3 cars are at all that quick.
-
Finally got some work done on it over the weekend......
Strapped a new battery to it, fired it up.......it rattled ::)
Did a quick oil change...tried it again.......still rattled ::)
Dipstick has melted itself to the tube at some point ::)
So got in it, started it up...........and just killed it....the noise was something else :o
20 seconds at pretty much full throttle with zero oil pressure and then is slowed, stalled and refused to run any more :-/ we killed it completely
just to be sure we did a amp draw test, it was chucking 720 amps to the starter and not turning at all
We have a 52,000 miles FWD V6 sat in the garage that is ready to go in, so next week we will be swapping components over and doing the refit.
We may have had a stroke of luck as well that may go some way to reducing the overall bill for the new engine, can say too much currently aside from it if does happen then there will be enough in the kitty for the LPG kit and still not break the 2k on the road cost :y
