Title: 2.5 v6 water pump
Post by: simonsp on 13 July 2012, 07:15:28
Hi I have just aquired the 2.5 v6  version on a S reg. I love the car to bits, fuel is a bit high (55miles toŁ10) but really nice.
What I have noticed is that the temp gauge sits at around 95C  and goes up to 100C and then back down and then up and down etc...., there is also not much in the way of heat coming from the vents, I am I right in thinking water pump  is a bit iffy?
Many thanks Simon

First step would be to give the system a good flush through .Remove both heater bulk head "quick fit pipes"and get a hose in them and flush both ways to ensure no obstructions.

See if that improves the situation before starting to pull things apart and spend too much money.Old coolant could have had any ammount of additives put in by previous owners trying to "quick fix" things so my advise is start with that and see where it goes.

As advised, flush the coolant system a few times.  Upon refill, remember 50:50 antifreeze mix is essential.

I didn't have a chance to do  muh today, but whilst the car was running I felt the rad pipes, both were quite hot and both were hard with a bit of sponginess to them.
