i would say it as something to do with the sound your p.c produces is analogue and the sound from a dvd or the like is digitally encrypted into the picture signal....i may be wrong but thats my take on it........ :y

I'm pretty sure you need to connect another cable for sound, if laptops got 3.5mm jack and the tv has the red and white phono plugs your in business.

If your Pc supports it, you can send sound down the HDMI cable, but this will appear as a separate sound device, so you need to select that instead of the internal sound card.

Hi
You need to select the correct HDMI playback device.
Easy way is to right click the sound icon in the bottom right of the taskbar(assuming you are in Win 7 should be the same in vista).
Up will pop some options. Click on playback devices then a box will appear, with the playback devices you have.
Highlight the high definition audio, maybe Ati or realtek or other. Then at the bottom of the box click "set as default".
The sound will now work.

Are you sure you have got sound on the laptop turned up? or you have it on mute. Even on mute the green bar will still move

Good
Remember to change to the original playback device to get sound from the laptop.
