Title: Help Needed with a Corsa
Post by: Jay w on 13 April 2008, 14:00:20
Sister in law has a N reg 1.4XE corsa, it recently snapped its belt and mullered the head, so we did the following:

Used a 1.6XE head with 1.4 cams and inlet manifold, dispack, sensors etc.

Since we put it back together the car has not run right, we have a multitude of fault codes ranging from

Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS)
Knock signal circuit
Throttle Potentiometer Sensor (TPS)
Fuel pump relay
Amplifier control signal, cylinders 2 and 3 (Direct Ignition System (DIS))
Amplifier control signal, cylinders 1 and 4 (Direct Ignition System (DIS))
Camshaft sensor

Now all of these components were on the car before the head issue, they have not been swapped but now seem to be troublesome.

The car will run, although a little sluggish it idles very roughly and finally dies, it does seem to be running rich.

There are no air leaks and it is not bugging be, any ideas what could be the issue/issues

Combustion chamber volume in the head would probably be larger on the 1.6, so it will have lost some compression. Wouldn't expect it to throw trouble codes like that though. From the number of sensors complaining I wonder if a ground connection on the engine loom has been missed?

Will have another look at the engine loom, we have had it apart 3 times so far.

The 1.4 and 1.6 heads are the same, the cams are the difference, so i have been told

Could be. Maybe the extra volume is in the pistons on the 1.6s. I don't know that engine at all so I could have been talking cr@p.

Start with something simple like the coolant temperature sensor. Make sure the wiring buzzes through to the right pins on the ECU. If one side is grounded make sure it has a low resistance back to the battery -ve terminal and that it sits at 0v WRT the battery -ve while the engine is running.

Seem to remember that ther are two engine earth points on this lump......its classic earth fault.

I assume the main engine loom connector is fitted ok.
