Hi all, My car is Opel Omega B 2.5 Estate. I was driving with the a/c on and suddenly the dashboard instruments went off. Later, I discovered that the compressor bearing is packed up, I changed the compressor; though with a used one from another car.
Now, anytime I switch on the A/C to regass, a 30 amps fuse in the fuse box below the Steering (which I believe controls the dashboard instruments) blows and the a/c trips off.
Pls can anybody help me out and tell me what to do.

have you checked the motor that you changed. the replacement motor may have a fault. if you un plug it dose it still blow the fuse?

The a/c compressor is belt driven ....... it's not a motor. ;) ;)

No ;) Bottom pulley on the near side on a V6 :y :y :y

nice to know :) must be a bad wire or a relay at fault then, dose it only blow fuse when you put A/C on or dose any thing els blow the fuse?
-
It only blows fuse when I switch the a/c on. Is there any way I can test the system without using the compressor?
-
there is a relay that maybe at fault, and is in the glove box dont know the number think its on the left side at the bottom end of the relays. should say on the lid witch one it is.

have just been reading up on mig A/C, says there is a relay for the A/C clutch. and if this is dirty or seized the fuse will continue to blow. if it is clean then it would be the clutch its self, as these can become seized. but with out the relay in it will stop blowing the fuse. :-\

Does the car have climate control or the manual heater controls? also, what year and engine spec?
Is the fuse blowing whenever the climate and / or fan are switched on or specifically when the air conditioning is used / it's taken out of ECO mode?
What fuse number is blowing?
-
First time I changed an AC compressor I managed to trap the wires from it. I trapped them in/under the pipe connector when reconnecting them.
Simple, stupid mistake by me, but worth checking.
And it blew the fuse everytime I turned it on.

Have you fixed it ?
-
Not yet fixed. Tried the suggestions but nothing positive. New suggestions are welcomed.

As said, does the car have climate control or a manual heater, which 30A fuse is blowing and exactly when does it blow?
-
One thing you should try is to disconnect A/c compressor plug and Condenser fan( thats the fan that sits in front of the rad). Than switch a/c on. if it blows again you have wiring problem, if not one of the 2 things have gone wrong. You could change your a/c clutch from your old compressor. Fan is tested with 2 wires from connector to the battery. If it goes its ok, if cables spark violently and no movement from fan is noticed than fan is gone.

@Kevin
I happen to have given this stuff a full check 2day. The beast is a 1997 2.5 V6 Estate model. With manual heater. The fuse that blows is F15 20A that controls the instrumention lights & other controls. One auto electrician I initially gave the car to, wrongly replaced 30A fuse instead of 2OA, hence the wrong statistics earlier. After a thorough check 2day, it is F15.
The car runs well without switching on A/C but as soon as the A/C is switched on, the Fuse blows within 1 minute and the dashboard goes blank. The engine will still run but like a generator without load
Thanks

hey Guys, the stuff is finally sorted out. The wires to the compressor got fused together inside the cable housing, maybe as a result of the old compressor that was defective. It was so hiding that it will be the last thing to come to your mind to have it checked.
Thanks all.
