Title: Failing crank sensor!!
Post by: sandune on 21 July 2012, 11:27:07
What are the symptoms of a failing crank sensor? :'(
This is a follow on to the stalling problem i'm having. Have replaced the MAF sensor after the usual checks
(disconnecting the plug) engine ran o.k,so fitted a sourced one ,ran engine on idle and it stalled after about five minutes.
These are the codes --0420----0155----0430----0100----0110 these codes all relate to the catalyser or maf .
So what are the symptoms of a failing or failed crank sensor?
Thank : :y

It is complaining about the Bank 2 O2 sensor 1 heater circuit. Other codes are a result of MAF disconnection and the usual pre-cat codes. Nothing there that would be likely to cause it to stall, IMHO.

Not all crank sensor problems give a code, and stalling when hot is a common symptom. Often it'll be reluctant to restart until it's cooled off a little.

Then again, if it was OK with the MAF disconnected, it does make me wonder. Was the replacement MAF a genuine one or pattern part?

Yes genuine (Bosch as was fitted--0281002184) so i'm back to where i was.
Look as i will be shelling out for a crank sensor :(

Dont know about the codes, but some of the symptons suggested would seem implicate the EGR valve.  Might be worht checking.

Assuming it's a 2.6, as mentioned in the OP's profile, it won't have an EGR valve. They were only fitted to 2.5 / 3.0 V6s. ;)

Glad you sorted.
Sorry I was unaware some models did not have an EGR valve. My previous post was based on personal experience with 3 differenet cars (2.2 dti Omega, old shape 2.0 dti Vec, and new shape 2.0 dti Vec)
Anyway crank sensor is a fraction of the cost of EGR valve!!!!!!!!!
