Title: dump valve
Post by: maskedpump on 21 July 2012, 14:33:05
Hey guys, was just wandering, and not to be given any harsh words, but I'm wanting to fit a dump valve to my 2.2 dti omega.

I know you get a nice 'pssshhh' sound when letting lose on the gas or changing gear if you remove the air box just before the air flow cencor. However I want something a tad better and better sounding.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

There used to be a kit you could buy,and it was operated by a micro switch on the gas pedal,so when you lifted off it used to operate the dump valve, was approx £100 .

I will restrain from commenting about diesels as you ask!

I've got a Bailey on my Celica and it sounds great, so good in fact it almost makes up for the 4 cylinder exhaust note, so I reckon if you can find something that makes yours sound as good go for it

Dump valves. Why? lol do they actually aid performance other than the ''ttsssshhh''?

You need to have a throttle to have a dump valve, and diesels don't have a throttle. ;)

That's why its controlled electronically  :y

But why fit it at all? The point of a dump valve is to relieve excess boost when the throttle is closed suddenly and the turbo is still spinning at full chat. You don't have a throttle, so don't need to relieve the boost. On a diesel surely all it'll do is give you more lag when you get back on the power, as the turbo has to build pressure in all the intake pipework again?  :-\

.. if it's just for the noise, surely an electronic box that goes "pisssssh" connected to the microswitch would be a better idea?

I'm with Kevin Wood, I don't think it can be made to work on a diesel...
