well maybe it's not odd. Lol. Had my wheels balanced today. Pleased to say all is wonderful and the vibration between 60 and 80 is completely gone. However there are no weights at all on the alloys. Is there some new way of adding the weights cos i thought the machine showed weights and points to be added on inside and outside of the rim. Had a new tyre. 72 budget job. And all 4 wheels aligned was twelve quid. ATS.

Sometimes you only need weights on the inside (so difficult to see if wheel fitted), and once in a blue moon, no weights required.
Tracking/4 wheel alignment is pretty pointless on an Omega IME, it needs (regular :() full geometry checks.
-
thats fair enough but the odd thing is that there were some big weights on there before and now none at all. Lol. Not really bothered cos it's sorted but obviously interesting from the learning point of view :-)

I hear this a lot. But I also hear it costs about £100 a pop...... :o :o :o :o
Is this cost effective on a car as worthless and elderly as an Omega?

i shall just keep a lookout for wim open days ha ha ;) no seriously it seems that the omega well mine anyway always needs something. My mate has a beetle and although i hate it with a passion it's true that he's needed nothing doin to it.

Ask TheDaddy who has just done £300 worth of rubber in 3months/3000 miles :'(
A £70 full geo check seems outstanding value for money...

Decent tyres are also £100 a pop .. so front pair £200 ish .. and if the geo is out you'll wreck them in 2000 miles ...... I look at the geo as insurance for my tyres ... helps to make them last their full life .. I just HATE ditching tyres with a load of tread in the middle and none on one edge .. :(

Not at WIM methinks ..........

Where was that freecall?
And what exactly was done...?

Indeed... That's very cheap for the full geometry, unless it didn't need much adjustment and they charge "per change" :-\
-
at c browns full geometry, they said there was only a bit out 20min job in end after had to undo the adjusters my self but was only £40, taking it back in to check next week as fin the wish bones and a few other stuff so will need re checking.
it was a lazer setup then tuck back aweek later for the last check.

Post up the before and after settings, so we can see how good they are for the benefit of local members :y

Mis alignment will scrub tyres in a matter of days :'(
I've used a firm called GCS Engineering in Monks Gate for last two :y
First was £125 because the rear adjusters were seized and the camber was out ::) last one as ££65 and took longer to set up than to adjust :y

just found this garage that does 4 wheel traking/alightment for £25 in not's http://www.nottinghammotcentre.co.uk/ if any good to any one.

It's worth shopping around... My local tyre depot charge for each adjustment they make.. so once you have the car basically setup well, it's better to go there for a check. Last time only the toe needed tweaking... £15. :y
I also have them well trained on the Omega now. ;)

save startin' a new thread...
what's the recommended min pad and disc thickness for the rear? i have a feeling the haynes stats are wrong :-X going to measure them later on as i know my fronts are ok :)
also any recommendations for where to buy pads and discs that aren't from vaux? they want £100 for 2 front discs and 4 pads so i'm thinking if the rear needs doing they'll be just as expensive.
-
and ps thanks for the info on the balancing/aligning chaps :y

back ones not vented are half the price.

Thanks guys. Any ideas on the minimum thickness for the rear pads and discs? I've looked on the oof servicing intervals but nowt on there. Cheers all :-)

god I'm thick. Sorry free call. Just re read your post. Thanks for the info and ignore this ageing old fool.

No. 4 wheel alignment is not much use usually on Omegas.

Most tyre places will offer a 4 wheel alignment for £25 - a few will even charge as much as £40 ::) ::) ;)
