Post by: m.ian on 25 July 2012, 08:22:48
Hi All,
I have got a saloon boot release switch that I want to use on my Elite Estate, to turn off the parking sensors when I am towing.
However, I do not know what pins do what!!!
Can anybody give some advice?
Many thanks
Ian

I'd imagine that the switch you have only has contacts that make when the switch is pressed, so maybe you could use something like this latching relay http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/relays/relays.php#latch

Get your multimeter out and you need the pair that make the circuit when the button is pressed ......  :-\ :-\

How about just pulling fuse when you hitch up?

I thought the factory fit ones disabled themselves when hooking up a pikey wagon? Not that I'd ever have a pikey wagon to test it with...

I suspect this would only be the case if a factory, twin electric towbar was installed.  And even then it's doubtful.  :-\

maybe use one of these http://www.towingelectrics.com/relays_fogcutoff.php to cut the sensors 12 volts when you selct reverse when the caravan is hooked up. (I can't claim any credit though, I found this ...... http://www.caravantalk.co.uk/caravan-advice/towing/reverse-parking-sensors-and-towing)
