Hi,
Has anyone any experience of fitting an aftermarket HID kit for the front fog lamps.
The standard set up seems very poor.
Thanks

Fitted a set about 2 years ago.
Bought a cheap HID 6000k bulb set with ballasts of fleabay for about £35 from China and set arrived in a week or so.Pretty good quality and all worked straight out the box.
Actual fitting was a bit Heath Robinson as HID bulb was too big to fit into standard fog light socket so required modifying to get new bulb secure and also required existing bulb deflector moving ( bending out the way ) .When managed to secure bulb next problem was the rear black socket needed replacing with one fabricated from a couple of plastic sleeves enabling bulb and wire to pass out through the back via a water tight cable gromet.New plastic sleeve secured with clear silicone to ensure all watertight and cables from HID bulb allowed to pass through.
New ballasts were secured just above the radiator with metal angle brackets then cabling from original wiring to foglights was joined into loom from new kit.All cables secured with ties and foglights secured back into front bumper and all worked .
In truth when I really think about it the benefits are pretty pointless as the number of times front foglights get used each year is limited although the extra light from them is quite amazing .Last time they were used in heavy fog back in February edges of road were totally illuminated however I imagine the extra dazzle to on coming traffic if used outside of genuine foggy conditions would be annoying.

I'd suggest that, being unmanaged lights, the ol' bill would take a very dim view on HID fogs...

What, and uncontrolled ultra bright light? What do you think they would say if I mounted a rather great spot on my roof and drove around with it on? ;)

Depends when it's turned on I suppose. Plod take a dim view (ha ha) of fog lights on when they shouldn't be on anyway. :y

Sadly, not around these parts. Running without fogs on around here must clearly be a sign of a small cock.

That'll be why I never turn mine on around there then ::)

I think it's the opposite round here, and there's clearly a lot of inadequacy. ;D
Not sure I'd waste time and money changing the fog lights. Can't remember the last time I used them.

I really, really wish that ANPR cameras would also detect inappropriate use of foglights, and send out fines automatically to all offenders. God that would make me happy. ;D

Yep. Would be really simple too. If the camera can see the car, and fog lights on... kerching!

I've been driving for 24 years, the last 10 of them professionally, and averaged at least 30,000 miles a year for many of the others. I doubt that I've used the rear fog lights 10 times. Personally, I think that there should be a third high intensity foglight positioned directly in the driver's eyeline, which would ensure that they're only used when absolutely necessary. This does not mean as soon as 3 spots of rain fall out of the sky. If the car has an auto dipping mirror, it should switch the fogs off. So should switching the lights or ignition off.
Only the last 3 cars have had front fogs, and I can't see the point of them at all. I certainly can't understand why some oppswit would drive around with sidelights and front fogs on.

Because it's cool sick, innit!?
Seriously though I have considered fitting a white led or two into the front fog light housing, just to give a little indirect lighting when the headlights are on, Ford Galaxy stylee...
