Title: charging light urgent help needed

please help my charging light came on while driving home car ran fine think the dash lights started to dim after about 5 or 6 min but this may have been my imagination . parked the car up had a look aux belt is still intact had a quick look and all the cables to the battery look ok no smell of burning insulation . left the car for a few hrs and went back and tried to start it up it started straight up and the battery light went out turned lights and HRW on and batt light stayed off . is my alternator on its way out or could it have just had a funny 5 min . i am susposed to be doing a 400 mile round trip this weekend ad really need some help got AA coming to have a look but want your advice please help

Sorry bud, sounds like the diode pack on the alternator is on its last legs.

If you have a local auto electrician suppliers round there, see if they will sell you a new one then just replace it.
If not, its new / reconditioned alternator time  :(

job jobbed second-hand unit fitted and working and new drive belt fitted too  :y :y :y :y :y fingers crossed (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtow75/7678213156/) where can i get a replacement regulator pack ?

Put the serial number and description into ebay or just have a word with your local motor factors.

Last time I purchased one, iirc it cost me about 15 quid  :y

Handy to keep in the glove box imho complete with a philips screwdriver  ;)
