Title: Windows startup problem
Post by: geoffr70 on 01 August 2012, 20:07:49
Hi peeps is there any computer whizz kids out there?

I forced my laptop to turn off whilst it was doing stuff by pressing and holding the power button. Now when I try to turn it on all I get is a black screen with white writing saying: " we apologise for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware of software change might have caused this."

It says other stuff, then counts down 30 seconds, you see the windows icon, then it repeats the process.  Have I buggered my computer?

Thanks peeps

The screen that comes up when I press f8 gives me the same options plus a few more, of I don't press f8. Ive tried selecting start windows normally, and using last known good configuration but it's still not having it. Anyone got any ideas?

Not that bothered about the computer, it's some music files (20gb) that I want.

Thanks peeps

or else you need to start from scratch and re-install

mrs is always doing that to her laptop just start it back on network, laptop is not on a network but it allways works and starts up. if fails starts in windows safe startup, has never worked trying last known good. could try that.

LKG only fixes configuration errors. It does not fix corruption or other forms of stupidity that the user tries.

Easy enough to recover the data. Just don't do too much else until someone who knows what they are doing has recovered it.

Looking forward, MAKE SOME rather BACKUPS!!!
