Title: In car must haves...
Post by: cam2502 on 03 August 2012, 16:54:03
So what items MUST you have in your car? I'm talking about the little things. For instance, I must have a pen, couple of quid spare change in the ashtray, some baby wipes ( don't ask  ;D )  and some little sachets of salt, coz I quite often have a sarny when out and about.
Don't know where that puts me on the autism spectrum ;), but I just like to have these things

Anyone else??

Strangely I carry a cigarette lighter. It stems from being an AA man many years ago. I was surrounded by half a dozen drunks in town one night asking for a light, something at that time I did not have. Have carried one ever since. Theory being can just hand over lighter and drive off.
Nothing else really carried day to day but if off on longer trip then qute a few tools are carried.

You'll need a few more "off the wall" eccentricities than that to get an ASD award  ;)

For me personally all I need is a combustible material, oxygen (with a bit of nitrogen thrown in), and a source of ignition to complete my journey  ;D

For me, one of those fold away silver reflective screens to put in the windscreen ( I never thought I would have one AND a set of ugly baby screens for side windows. Driving a greenhouse disguised as a bus doesn't help. Oh for the days of an Omega with small windows and tinted glass.

Oh and I forgot. Two litres of drinking water just in case. :y

Although all of my keyrings have a small LED torch, I keep a good one, readily available in the car.
I have a phone charger in each of my vehicles, which also charges the satnav.
Wheel changing equipment.
Hi-viz vest.
Breakdown phone number; if it does break down, I just want it taken home!

Those are the essentials, although I also have: a small socket set, a couple of screwdrivers, duct tape and a few cable ties. I don'tthink I've ever used any of this stuff on my own car, but it doesn't take up much space and is handy to have.

I keep forgetting to replace the fire extinguisher.

Torch, spare crank sensor, jack wheelbrace and not much else.Although I have had an A frame and two sets of Omega seat belts in the boot for a couple of months.Really should take them out soon. ::)
A cant stand having lots of stuff inside the car rolling & rattling around when Im driving,it really gets on my nerves.
The Cavalier is full of all sorts of bits & pieces which I keep meaning to clear out,but its sort of become my second shed for storing bits  & pieces. I do keep it jammed in place though so it doesnt move around when driving

I carry so much stuff in different cars;

Jag's got - 3 ton trolley Jack, breaker bar, tool kit, x3 pairs of shoes, autoglym cleaning stuff, 10w40 and 5w30 oil.

Black Omega - Shovel, brush, crowbar, x4 road cones, police slow sign, incident box, vehicle fire extinguisher, first aid kit, x4 blue flashing road lights, NCRF collision booklet.

I wondered why I got through so much petrol  ::)

Mine is kept in the boot, the car gets searched by the police far too often when I'm out late at night, they probably wouldn't take the genuine reason of having it in the car to change the wheel seriously if its in the cabin  ::)

Paracetamol tabs (I'm stuffed if I get a head ache) & sunglasses. My eyes are very sensitive to light. Anyone that knows me knows that my sun visors are down all the time on both sides, passengers that put it up when they get in get asked firmly & politely to put it back down.

Blue eyed, by any chance, Pete? I'm forever wearing shades too, otherwise I'm Squinty McSquint! ;D

What's in my cars that I can't travel without? Not a lot, really.. docking station for the iPhone TomTom in both cars but other than that.. usually small change and detritus (McDonalds leftovers, crap in the boot of the estate that I haven't taken out - e.g. a three section 4.8m ladder, right now ;D)..

+ 1 even in winter  :y I know some have a fetish for keeping the visors up to stop the visor fading  ::)
