I'm sure that someone on here will know. How, if at all, does the subject above apply to any given product. I'm a trustee of our Village Hall, and we have a problem with roof tiles which were produced according to the above standard(s). I cannot find anything online which is specific to the quality of such things as tiles. ??? ??? ???

ISO 9001 just relates to quality standards. it does not govern the quality of things. if your procedures are written to allow you to produce crap and you follow the procedures - job done.
Basically, this standard means you have created a procedures manual for the work you do (a quality manual), you get the certificate if you can prove you have followed them, it is checked every 2 years to confirm you are still following them.
Nothing ever looks at what you actually make/produce/deliver - just how you do.

I was afraid of that, so we get no support in our case against the manufacturers just because they have such a piece of crap paper. >:( >:( >:(

yes thats correct it is a quality assurance....it shows within the organisation thay are working to there companies procedure...and there is an audit trail of some description...has nothing to do with the making of tiles

They have been affected by frost and many have delaminated. They were fitted just over 20 years ago, and the manufacturers will supply replacement tiles but not the cost of fitting, which for us is about £12000. Very difficult for a Village Hall to find.

Yup, and even the local milkman could get 9001, 9002 is a bit tougher but none of them relate to product quality, only procedural control (note I dont use the word quality as the procedures could a right load of old tosh).
As the for the tiles, name, shame and get the press in, get the local paper to report and see how you get on.......

it must be a massive roof if its taking 12000 to replace the tiles. I am a roofer and 12000 is an awful lot of roof. If you want pm some details and I'll take a look into it for you

I'm a roofer to trade as well, roof tiles generally only have a life span of 20-30 years, whereas slate has a lifetime guarantee. Not much help to you, just saying.

well 9001 was called when it was first launched quality assurance but as you said ( and most of the companys i worked for had bs 9001 and their procedure were crap) it did not assure anything apart from reams and reams of paperwork
