Hey nice one bod. I fell out with mine, because he just couldn't keep his nose out (so now his nose is permanently out).
Well done though, i hope it stays that way for you  :y :y :y

Good move... After all you only have 1 dad. I lost mine last year, luckily we sorted our problems out before he died. I would have been devastated if we hadn't.
It often pays to bite your tongue than bear a grudge.

Glad to hear you sorted it. Made me think; my Dad lives only 10 miles from me but don't see him very often as I don't like his partner. Should make the effort to see him more often as at the end of the day it is his choice who he spends his life with.

Nice one. I fell out with my Dad before i left home. It stayed that way then he died. I consider my stepfather my Dad. He did'nt try to rule me when i was young but advised me & was patient. He's made my Mum a happier person for the last 30+ yrs & for both of those things i love & admire him. He's got 3 grown up children of his own but always refers to his 4 children. He's a retired Vet & nearly 80 & Mum's nearly 70. My son's 22 & won't speak to me or his Mother.
No wonder i stay on my own now.

My father and brother who lived in the same house for years after my brother got divorced, and have not spoken to each other for many years. Just before last christmas, they started to talk to each other to great relief to the other members of the family. My father died 7 weeks ago and my brother through his emotion, stood over my father and said " dad i'm glad we made up". Remember, it's to late when the inevitable happens and life is to short, after all he is your dad and he helped bring you into this world and brought you up.  :'(

My real Dad ( the dead one) was a good man & meant well. We were well provided for. Well respected in our Sussex village as an ex RAF man, Scout leader, Chairman of various philately clubs but behind closed doors a control freak. At 9 yrs old i was beaten because when i made a bowl of cornflakes i put the empty milk bottle down while i put sugar on. Apparently i should've washed the bottle out first to save putting it down & picking it up again. I was going to do it but i got the whole operation in the wrong order. What hurt more than the beating was Mum screaming at him to stop. This went on for years.
Never wanted to make my peace. did'nt speak since i left home @ 16. Mum's well out of his way now, has been for 30 yrs & i'd do anything for her, total Mummy's boy & proud of it!
As for the old man, best forgotten.

Heartwarming stuff :y

Whatever the reasons for falling out, at the end of the day he's still your Dad and to go through so long without contact with him must have been very sad for you both. Well done. :)

Says it all really.

Michael and The Mechanics

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that Im a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that Im a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
Im afraid thats all weve got

You say you just dont see it
He says its perfect sense
You just cant get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
Its the bitterness that lasts

So dont yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you dont give up, and dont give in
You may just be o.k.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye

I wasnt there that morning
When my father passed away
I didnt get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
Im sure I heard his echo
In my babys new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye
