no one round here seems to want to touch it other than the dealer who have quoted 396 all in. so may have to bite the bullet.

Hi Mate,

Where's the decent garage nr Plymouth. Only in Kingsbridge and a new omega owner, would be handy to know (though seems right as rain at the minute- famous last words...)

well going to get the dealer to do it as there only a 2 min walk from my work 390inc vat for fixed price so i asked the guy is there any hidden charges etc he said no but if we find oil leaks from the camseal or rocker covers or the waterpump pulley has a play etc it could be more. i told him i can change the waterpump and rockwer gaskets etc i just dont have confidence to time the belts up. and im buggered if im paying another 100 or so quid to have them do the pump when i can do that for free. he didnt seem to impressed. so hopefully they wont try pulling a fast one.

That is way too much money to pay out for just the belt/tensioner kit being replaced. :o

As advised give either James V6 or Darth a pm ...they will do it properly and for considerably less than that imho :y

that does include parts also

Gates or Conti kits work out around £100 and for a decent mechanic around 3 hours work maximum, so still typical dealer rates for dubious quality work. >:(

Seriously get one of the trusted mechanics of the forum to price the job for you. :y

Yep, I will post up some pics later..

Given the last cambelt was done by a VX dealer, it was an utter disgrace..  >:(

My first thoughts when I saw how far out the cams were when the crank was at TDC, were "how the break is this thing even running"  :-X

All timed up to perfection now and running sweetly. I bet you that flat spot will disappear now, scott!! :y

Mine is due soon and dealer is quoting £265 all in
Title: Re: cambelt change in devon
Post by: scottambrose on 14 August 2012, 13:57:37
I had 3 dealer quotes and all of them said it was 430 retail and would give me 10per cent discount or there abouts. strange
Title: Re: cambelt change in devon
Post by: pscocoa on 14 August 2012, 14:40:06
I suppose you need to compare the belt kit retail price with trade discount price. My £265 does not include water pump so say £300 with water pump.

the dealers are rubbish. when i knew nothing about auto repair and i had no proof of cambelt being done i asked if it was possible to check to see if it needed doing. their answer was no, once the cover is off it has to be replaced! haha basically they just fobbed me off.
