Title: 2002 auto gearbox problem
Post by: John.1111 on 12 August 2012, 13:23:15
Hi All,

I have a 2002 omega with gearbox problems, it will drive ok for a couple of miles then I lose top gear then slowly I lose the rest.

I have had the gearbox filter and oil changed but did not help, how easy is it to change the auto gearbox and how long will it take?  ::)

Its a very heavy gearbox  ::) so would be best trying to get car onto a 4 poster with a decent transmission jack available.

Some have done it with trolley jack and ramps but that would be a real struggle imho :o.Decent mechanic with proper access to correct tools should have it swopped over inside 3 hours, but expect much longer without good access.  :y

Using ramps + trolley jacks - need to drop cats for clearance and remove torqe convertor with box.  Box weighs nearly 100kg - needs 2 people ideally + sturdy trolley jack.  Last time I did one it took us around 3 - 4 hours HTH :y
