Hi all,
as per title, EML came on this afternoon without warning, and car has gone into limp mode.
Its got plenty of petrol, a nearly full tank of LPG, the oil level looks fine on the dipstick (despite the intermittent oil leak) and there's plenty of coolant in it.
Is this a main dealer jobbie (at oodles of money) or will a local garage have the 'computer says no' equipment?
Or failing that, anyone local to Nottinghamshire with a diagnostic kit?
Getting fed up of spending money on the car now, tempted to just make it look pretty and get rid :-\

mark DTM is very near to you..send him a pm :y he has tec 2 to read your codes
-
cheers matey, will do that :)
Another friend has suggested it could the the MAF - the one on my car is a scrapyard one (I assume) as its got blue splodges on it, similar to the ones that our local scrappy put on parts when they sell them.
I've found and Ebay seller (Vaux-World) selling new ones for £28.30 plus P&P - does that sound reasonable? Dont want to risk a s/h one again if thats the problem.

i believe the PC test does show non-current codes... so best to get a tech2 dude on it if poss.
-
Yup, paperclippable.
But given the location of Marks DTM, might be worth getting him to give it the once over - he has the equipment, and more importantly, the knowhow. I would highly recommend him.
-
we're just trying to find a paperclip, but have also pm'd Mark about tech 2.
thanks for all the advice, what would I do without you guys (scrap the Omega probably! lol)

just done paperclip test, and its giving the following codes over and over again:
10 - 10 - 3 - 4
can't seem to make sense of that on the fault code listing - engine doesn't sound like its misfiring, its still running *fine* and drives - albeit in limp mode as it wont go much over 2300rpm.
Confused dot com ! ???
I'll wait to hear back from my PM to Mark and see if he's free (and localish) to me.

Sure it`s not 10 - 3 - 4 - 10 (classic cam sensor symptoms, restricted RPM)
-
it could well be, got abit lost watching the numbers go round and trying to write them down.
So, what sort of job is a cam sensor then.......... ::)

is this the beastie in question:

At least its cheaper then a MAF !! ;D

Only buy genuine from VX. Easy job, pretty much the same as the 2.2

fab stuff, thanks Rob :)
I guess this is one of those 'could have changed it when James came to do the cambelt' jobs ::)
Will ring Vauxhall in the morning to price the part up.
thanks again to everyone for the help and advice, much appreciated! :y

Just doublecheck that the flash code is 10-3-4-10 (0340) :)
-
will do it again tomorrow, when we did the paper clip test tonight it did keep repeating that sequence however.
cheers,

Cam sensor is likely, but check with paperclip in morning :)
Quite easy to change if it is.
-
Have come to the conclusion that I'll need to take out the old sensor to find out which type I need to order from Vauxhall, as I dont know if my car has the modified one or not.
Its all good fun, eh!! ::)
Claire
-
I've removed my old cam sensor this morning - it is the modified type - I then fell off my chair when Parts Bod at local Vauxhall Dealer said he had them in stock at £60 inc VAT !!! :o
Quick trawl of t'internet, turned the correct one up, for £25 plus a bit of P&P, so I'll stick my feet up and wait for the Postie to bring it to me, and in the mean time use my DeLorean as the daily driver! ;D ;D ;D ;D

It might well be fine... I know for crank sensors, gen GM is a must - not sure if this applies to cam sensors too.... :-\
-
this is a gen one, same Siemens part number and branding as my old one :)
