Try these for a quote, I find them quite reasonable.

for a new male driver under 21 on any car at all your minimum fully comp insurance wont go below about £1100ish unless you get lucky with an unheard of company!

when i was 23 i paid £1060 on a 1.0 corsa, i deliberately bought a newish one because i couldn't justify paying over a grand to insure a car worth bugger all

As a rough rule, if you also quote mum as a named driver (note - not the MAIN driver) most policies show a decrease versus insured only.

If the car is worth buttons, go for TPFT or 3rd party only for the first year to get a NCD.

Also, if you can't find a better deal, a local Vauxhall dealer is offering a years free insurance, but instead of the usual over 21/25 clause it's available for 18+ IIRC.

Would depend upon depreciation but might work out cheaper than ridiculous quotes  :-/
