Pakistani police have arrested a mentally disabled 11-year-old girl after a mob accused her of desecrating pages of the Koran.
The mob demanded the Christian girl's arrest and threatened to burn down Christian homes outside the capital Islamabad, local media say.
Officials said the girl could not properly answer police questions.
Her parents have been taken into protective custody following threats and other Christian families have fled.
It is thought that the girl has Down's syndrome.

I.M.O.it does not belong in the dark ages..surely one thing we still have in our country is..freedom of speech provided it is said in a correct and proper manner whether it is for or against the debate. :-X

Of course it belongs in the dark ages. We're not talking about freedom of speech here, we're talking about an oppressive, uncompromising, intolerant ideology.

Btw, well said Albs! :)
Now someone just needs to tell the British establishment.

Quite so, and long may it continue, but to constantly bring very similar topics to the for and nothing else, gives a rather negative feel to that single minded approach. It's almost as though, if we had nothing to moan about, then we'd moan. No?
All up for free speech of course. :)

Perhaps general chat should be shut down altogether ?
Maybe rearrange the sections we already have so that there are dedicated sections for wishbones, doughnut bushes.etc ?........
-
Why am I not surprised by the report ???, we are talking about an ignorant load of peasants who live in the middle ages. Does it make me angry? Of course it does but not half as much as the fact that they bring this type of ideology to this country and it is tolerated to a certain degree for fear of being racist. >:( >:( >:(
General chat is a great place for banter and to share opinions, you may not like mine or me yours but the good thing is knowing how others feel about particular issues. I tend to find that in general most agree to an extent with the views of the majority. :y :y :y Besides which it is much more interesting than wishbone, doughnut bushes etc ;) ;)

Regarding the OP - yes it beggars belief that such practices remain in some parts of the world in this, the early part of the 21st century.
It is important for this behaviour to be discussed – especially in this country given the increasing number of people residing here within communities originating from areas of the world where this behaviour is condoned or practiced and who may be subject to such thinking.
These issues need to be identified on each and every occasion the need arises and I thank Nick for taking the trouble to do so.
