Post by: mrgreen on 20 August 2012, 11:26:32
I just went to get a manifold gasket from a local motor factors over here which was not in stock but was told also that it is around €28!!, is this right can a manifold gasket cost so much!! and what is the up/downside to reusing the old one as i'm replacing the manifold due to a crack on the top of it

What engine?

Usually factory fit ones / genuine are multi-layer, cheapo ones are a single sheet

If its a V6 then for the amount of grief getting to the manifold and getting it off I would suggest only replacing with new and also fitting new copper manifold stud nuts too.Might also be safe getting a couple of spare studs incase threads are not too good.

Three layered exhaust manifold gasket costs around £12=00 over here so unsure of your Euro rate and discount options.

Cant offer any assistance if car is a 4 pot though

Actually given the fact that includes a full set of studs and copper nut ,downpipe gasket too,its not that bad a total price ,although postage is abit steep.

Might be worth trying to negotiate a bit ,if they will play ball ;)
