mine did that then I found out it was a loose connection on the lead going in :)

Sounds like a knackered speaker...
-
So far i have not touched the tv .... someone got me doing another job ::) but she makes plenty cups of tea ... thanks for that chaps i will inspect the speaker wires providing i can get the back off the tv first :-X never took one to bits before :-\

If its CRT based, be aware that the tube acts as a bloody great capacitor, and it can easily kill you, even with it unplugged.

Had to look that up on wiki ;D " cathode ray tube" no i dont believe it is on of those ... been delayed for inspection till tomorrow , if it dont work ill be down the breakers for a second hand new one :( its only for upstairs & swmbo's soap time ::) ;)

So its LCD or LED then?

LCD

OK, the inverters can generate some high voltages, so unsure its unplugged before removing cover

Will do , just been looking through the online help section for the tv ...
Despite replacing this, the audio o/p ic IC201 KA2201 (TBA820M) and variouscaps around it the fault remained. adding a 0.1mfd cap from the o/p of the ic (pin 5) to chassis, this completely cured the fault
:D :D :D :D whats all that about ;D will take the back off in the morning :y

TBA820 is a low power op amp predominately used for low power Audio, no more than a 1 Watt o/p from memory, so not sure what its doing in your TV unless its a Head Phone driver, I use to come across them in some Two Way Radio Handportables audio stages, they can go bang, but generally either do or dont work.
Could be a typo and its from the TBA800 range of Amps, probably chucking out 5 watts or so, again they either work or dont, if its intermittent could be dry joint or a leaky capacitor somewhere , but as said first choice would be check speaker and or connectors, speaker will be either 8 or 4 ohms if measured, if you do get the speaker out gently move the cone around and see if you can hear the speaker coil scrapping with movement.

Make sure the household insurance is up to date and knock the tv over ::)

Hopefully it was a false alarm , got all the tools together and swmbo came up and said what you doing ::) fixing the speaker "why" it was fine last night she said " i just pushed the scart lead in a bit more " >:( will see if it lasts and if need be i will check all thats be said ... many thanks :-[ :y

SCART (from Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs, Radio and Television Receiver Manufacturers' Association)
French and therefore 'characterful' or crap depending on your attitude ::)
My in-laws previous CRT TV developed a similar fault & I found that all the solder joints between the SCART socket & the circuit board had failed. 5 minutes with a soldering iron fixed it :y
-
SCART is normally robust enough. Assuming the chinese put enough solder on it
-
Someones happy with it and even more so cos she recons she fixed it :( :)... yes the "old" scart connection must have worked its way loose :(
