this is the quandry faced by a lot of people.......not only Vaux owners

I have a 2.6 CDX and am in the same boat, i am keeping mine because the comfort factor outweighs the expense, but then i do 20,000 miles a year.

how badly do you want to keep it? that is the $64,000 question....Is it worth paying £400 a year before we get into the realms of Insurance or running costs?

If the answer is no then what are the options, downsizing?

a difficult decision and one that only you can make, if you were selling  you would see the thick end of 4K i would imagine

How much can you make tax free in the black economy to pay for it?

Now that would cost them more in the long run - must double car tax to pay for mosquito blankets. >:(

It's another 200 quid a year. Sounds a lot but work out how much you're already spending on it - i.e. fuel tyres, maintenance, etc. and it's a drop in the ocean, albeit an irritation. Sounds like the car is sorted to your satisfaction so why throw that away?

It would be a shame to lose the car for the sake of another £4 a week.It does sound a nice car, and what would you replace it with.
Another problem is that I think you would struggle to get a decent price for it.

......and if you keep it you have the satisfaction of knowing that they havent forced you to sell your car and therefore acheived what they intended with the tax increase, you could also buy a slightly older mig i suppose.but it all depends on your personal circumstances  really.

Bit of an urban terrorist aren't we Martin?

If I said what I really thought all the time, the police would hunt me down and charge me with inciting unrest :-X

Not really - like ranting but I am looking at ways of additional income to pay for the increased taxes

Trouble is Richard, I don't think it will pi$$ off the government - probably the opposite as it will be lining the government coffers with even more revenue! I'm currently paying £206 a year and next year it's gonna be £440!! :'( :'( :'(

this is because your tax was unfortunate to end after the budget date, mine will only need to be renewed at the higher price in jan 2010

You could always just tax your car early, ie just before the new VED prices come into effect, and cash in the old disk. At least you're getting slightly longer before you have to line the government pockets!

That might pi$$ them off a little!!  :y :y :y

The increase sounds a lot in one lump sum >:( it sounds better if you work it out weekly less than two pints of beer.

Mine's an early 99 so i'm lucky, but i sympathise with those of you who are getting hammered yet again. We've all made the choice to run a big car & pay a little more in ins., fuel etc. That was our choice.
This new road tax banding is a liberty to be honest.
Might be justifiable if those who imposed it did'nt get chauffeured to work in Jags & the rest of us could claim food bills, new kitchens/bathrooms blah blah...
Hope this does'nt count as a rant!!! ;D
