Hi all
Was out the other day and snapped this - it was a long way away so sorry for the poor pics - anyone know what it is?? It was a big bird!

from memory, although probably wrong, the pics remind me of the white tailed eagle, which again if memory is correct is a visitor from the continent !

I'd of bet on a Kite, no? :-\
Not a Kite on a string, a feathered Kite. Red tailed? :-\
-
Sadly I know very little about birds, I've googled pics of kites and many kinds of eagles but none of them look the same - the only one that does is the Golden Eagle, the odd's of me seeing one in Wales is slim but there have been sightings in the area where I snapped this one...
According to the web, the tail and mid-colour of the undersides of the wings are the best way to ID a bird, the closest 'I' can match it to is a golden eagle? (but what do I know lol)
Cheers
Rob

Looks like a buzzard to me

Black kites are rather rare south of the border i believe and red kites have a forked tail and wing tips that are rather pointed. it does not appear to me to be a golden eagle as they also tend to be north of the border and i believe rather drab coloured underneath ! there are golden eagles in wales in and around where you were but the picture leads me to think that it isn't a golden eagle but another type.

Cheers, Seen pics of Buzzards where some of them look alike - how big does a buzzard get/wingspan as this was a big bird, looks smaller in the pics

Ok thanks, I'm thinking of posting on a bird watchers forum (not that I'm a member on any - yet!) :D

As said, I don't know enough but to me it's too different to the pic, the large tail and the 'straight'stripe of white on the underside of the wings are different to any of the buzard pics I can find.
The poor shots don't help I know ::)

Ta Rob, I'm going mad now looking at all these different types of birds, I know they do vary in their markings - thats confusing me further lol
Looking for a white headed bird with a white/gold'ish coloured tail with the white stripe under the wings...
