Title: Anniversary advice please . .
Post by: Big_Al on 02 September 2012, 20:32:31
hi guys & gals
bit of a problem has just surfaced . . .    Tuesday 25th September is our 30th wedding anniversary. The last Tuesday of the month  (25th in this case) is my Shadows Guitar Club monthly meeting .

Having only missed 2 meetings in 15 years I was going to miss this one & hopefully be away somewhere abroad on a last minute holiday deal with SWMBO.

The guy who normally takes control , is , unbeknown to me also celebrating his 30th anniversary on the same day  :o :o :o

I've known him for 15 years & this situation has never    reared it's ugly head before .we did not know we both got married on the same day 30 years ago  ::) ::)

Dave has just informed me him & his Missus are celebrating with a trip  on the Orient Express  & he won't be here for the meeting  :o :o :o

Any advice on how to go about breaking the news to SWMBO .

Or shall I try & cancel the meeting which has never been done in the clubs 15 year history .

Just cannot see her being ok with me not being available for the actual anniversary evening .

Help ! :-\ :-\ :-\

Regards, Al :'( :'(

explain the situation to the outher members and move to anouther night they will understand
[and its better than spending your anniversary in intensive care]

Bloody hell Al its a no brainer - 30 year anniversary vs a 15 year club history.
You must put your club meet off and do something memorable for SWMBO or your subsequent life will be short and fecking awful !! :o :o ::) ::) ;)

As Rob says, it's a no brainer! Tell swmbo you'll be back before midnight! ;D
Seriously though, a milestone wedding anniversary is a much bigger deal than your Club, especially to your missus! :D

Ditch the guitar club for the evening, they should understand I would've thought  ??? 30 years of marriage is more important?

I'd add another vote for either cancelling or (preferably) moving the club meet and still doing the nice trip away :y

It must be wedding anniversary, unless you want to spend the next 30 years being reminded how your guitar club was more important than your 30th anniversary.   ::) ::) ::) ::)

You might also witness SWMBO showing you what Pete Townend used to do with his guitars on stage at the end of a concert.  :o :o :o :o

You and the other chap explain the situation to the other members, move the meeting a couple of weeks and turn the new meeting into a surprise party for both ladies and a celebrationof 15 years club history at least you'd only have to provide refreshments the act is alredy booked. :y :y :y

My thought is that our anniversary comes first of course . ::) ::)

Moving the meeting is a non starter as the venue is  always booked and is used by other clubs/functions on most evenings.

Dave (who is also celebrating 30years marrige) is the only one I would trust with setting up & more importantly wiring correctly

the equipment and as said he's not available  .

So I am going to try & cancel this one , most members are reachable by e mail . Have got 3 weeks to sort it.

I did mention the situation in a round about way  to SWMBO late last night   . . .  she was surprisingly calm about it  :o :o :o

Thanks for your replies guys & as some have said it really is a  " no brainer"  :y :y :y

Sounds like you need to book the orient express sharpish before she speaks to Dave's missus. :o

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

TBH, I'm very lucky in that Mrs LD is extremely tolerant and would probably tell me to go to the club meeting and we'd celebrate the next day but not everyone is that lucky! ::)

Then again... 30 years she might not be so understanding :-X :-X

I think you've made the right decision to cancel ;)

Ever since we got past 10 years of marraige we have allways gone away on our anniversary, we booked on the flight to Spain on the 1st October this year. It is our 24th. Sadly she has already started talking about the 25th next year being a milestone and we need to do something special !
Best not to dissapoint the most important person in our lives  :-\
