Does an MOT cancel a SORN?
Or do you have to apply for new Log Book?

No, you can SORN a car that has an MOT
Or do you have to apply for new Log Book?
Is there a connection with above? :-\ :-\
-
Sorry should have been more specific, car currently SORN (2.2 LPG), got notification it has been, need to find the paper work, thought that replaced log book, think I'm wrong here.
Looking to MOT it, I know there issues about tax/insurance driving it there. Just wondered if I MOT it, will that cancel the SORN so i can then insure & tax? :-\
-
Taxing it cancels the SORN. SORN is just a way of saying you don't want to tax it.
You need to insure it, then MOT it, then tax it.

Cheers Kev :y
But for insurance to be valid, does it not have to have an MOT. Or as usual with DVLA, guess that's an infinite loop?

As KW says. As long as you pre-book your MOT and the MOT station knows the reg of the car you're taking, then if, in the event of you pulled over, you're in the clear ............ as long as the car isn't dangerous etc etc :y

Cheers, as long as I don't get caught going away from MOT place before heading back, to give it an old italian tune up on the way :D

Your insurance should cover you to take it to and from a booked MOT. You can drive an untaxed car to and from a booked MOT as long as it is insured.
Oh, and you should still have the log book.
-
Driving to and from MOT Tester or a Garage to have MOT related work done with no valid Tax and MOT, as said earlier Car must be pre arranged and booked in with Reg confirmation.
As far as the Police are concerned (Insured but no Tax or MOT), it needs to be local and your route should take you straight there and back, probably get away with a slight de tour to get some local Petrol and some sweets for the Tester.
DVLA (no Tax) give you 60 mins grace each way for the above.
Bear this in mind if your going for an Italian Tune up before the Test.

What if you trailered it to the m.o.t.station and back on the back of a break down truck......wheels not on road surface ...not driving it...would it still need to be taxed and insured.. :y...just asking :)

Seem to remember, ok if the trailer if off road or on Private, but if the Trailer is on or parked up on road or it needs to be attached to a legal Vehicle.
Not sure about about rear pick ups, where 2 of the wheels are on the road or A Frames though without Traders Plates, believed they changed to rules on them in line with normal tow rope towing?

Yea, heard that one recently when I took a friend of mine to pick up his car from a VESA Depot, but even the VESA (DVLA) lady confessed that the seem to change the rules every now and then.

Thanks all, its now insured. Just need to book it in for a MOT, taking a slightly longer "Italian tune up route" ::)
Once MOT'd, I'll get it back and then go to post office to tax it. Got to wait until paperwork comes through, they would not e-mail a certificate copy :(

Quite a lot of companies will let you download and print a copy yourself,my son had to do this with Admiral or Elephant(I forget which :-[)

Best they could offer was fax, could not be bothered to set up a PC to receive a fax. Usually they are fairly good, just quoting 7 days as worst case.
Its not being MOT'd until Wednesday anyway :)

Check on ASKMID.com every morning. This site uses the same system the police use with their ANPR. My insurance showed up 2 days after the purchase date. Ironically, with the same company the year before, it took 2 weeks.

If you do get pulled do not ever admit to knowing you knew a shorter/quicker route. Simply tell the officer that this is the only route you know and you will stick to it. Don't agree with him if he tells you that there was a quicker route.

Sadly, that's not possible, as I would be driving in completely the wrong direction. MOT place I use is only about a mile away :(

To late now but a tip for next time would be to book the MOT a few miles off you're tuneup route. :P
I did that once, got pulled, and got away with it. - 'I do not know of any other MOT centres. This is the only one I am familiar with on the only route I know possible.' worked like a charm :)

Is the Car LPGed, if so get the Car booked in at your local one, then find another MOT Tester on your Tune up trip that will do a No Cat test for LPG, get it booked in there, if stooped explain your using the LPG Tester for that reason rather than your local one, if you Dont get stooped and all goes well drive to your local one and cancel the LPG Tester.
Remember, in theory, you have 60 mins to play with each way if booked in.
