If a front track rod end is excessively rusty, will it fail an MOT?
Last time my local MOT gave me an advisory on MOT saying they were not adjustable, but I didn't think they needed to be for a MOT?
One side is ok, but drivers side for some reason is mega rusty. Wondering if a coat of black hammerite would do it, although tad obvious they would have been rusty ::)

Given their thickness, no amount of rust will affect their structure so I can't see why they would fail.
Are the rubber dust covers intact?
-
Nowt to do with test if it's adjustable or not,as Kevin says it would have to be very rusty to be seriously weakened, make sure the dust boot is good though because that will fail as will all dust boots on all steering/suspension joints
Note to self, read All of Kevin's post before commenting :-[

As above, but no harm for a bit of wire brushing and some oil.
As said check the Boots arn't worn, thats one of the new flavours on the Fail list at the moment.

The are intact rubber wise each end (need to double check), just the metal parts are very rusty. Already given a good soak in plus gas ready for a WIM session.
Good wirebrush and coat of oil before MOT I think, should keep them happy!
Cheers all :y

rubber boots were to be a failure in jan this year along with lots of other things which vosa could not get to work right and as far as i am aware they were recinded all brought out in special notice 9/11 to be implimented in jan 2012 then a later special notice was sent with the points to be not implimeted will double check on said later special notice but think they are still advisories

Rusty track rod ends are fine so long as no play and the rubber boot isn't split or damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc. Depending on the tester you may get an advisory notice on it.
-
Play and damaged boots are what it can fail on. For it to fail on rust, it would have to be so bad, that it was structually weakened

Get working with a wire brush mate and coat in grease/oil :y

When doing this kind of work its good practice to wear goggles and a condom over your head (mind your ears when putting it on) ::) ::) ::) :y

Wite brush couldn't damage the boots though? Could it? :-\

Before I took my TD to WIM, I removed all four, and slackened and greased them. Made life simpler and they were now adjustable. :y
