Title: F/L Powersounder
Post by: dbug on 10 September 2012, 19:58:58
Hope this may help others . . .

Car 2003 2.5V6 Estate - today alarms going off, car locks on remote then immediately unlocks - key in ignition and turn, alarms sound.  Car got to stage where it wouldn't turn over, dash lights dimmed.  Only way to turn alarms off is to press locking button on remote.

10 mins later and powersounder in bucket of water, gurgling happily - central locking working now ok, car starting ok.

Ditch that powersounder  :y :y :y :y :y

Title: Re: F/L Powersounder + alternator issue
Post by: dbug on 11 September 2012, 23:38:09
Don't know if its just coincidental but this evening battery light came on, followed by all other warning lights, no speed or rev counter and car ground to a halt.  My partner called me out and battery completely dead, couldn't even operate central locking.  Put power pack across battery, car fired up instantly, but battery light on, all other lights out.  Aux belt is brand new (fitted about a week ago, genuine Vx), and fitted/tensioned ok.  Battery light would go out if car reved hard (4.5 to 5K revs), but on as soon as revs dropped below 4.5K.

Guess new alternator to be fitted.  Is it easier to remove/refit alternator from underneath, or pull bagpipes and remove from front?  Ant ideas what size sockets needed - believe 2 elec connectors and two fixing nuts and bolts.

Thanx

How long to do - guess about an hour.

Also believe Vx do exchange units?

Y26SE motor - 120amp alternator?

Yes vx do/did exchange, refund on return of the old one. I chose that option purely on the basis of getting the correct one, as a factors wAnt to know the output and pulley size. Presume its on tc as well...?

Bagpipes out when I did mine, forward and up. ....not saying thats the best way though, was a long time ago. :-\
