Title: Senator 3.0 gearboxes and engine compatiblity

AIUI the Saab 2.3 turbo as found in the 9000, 9-3 etc has a GM standard gearbox mounting pattern. I seem to have it in my head that this doesn't match a Senator-B gearbox, and only from the 94 Omega onwards?
 In which case, you'd need an R30 (?) gearbox to go on as well, and then I suppose either Omega driveline or a prop to mate Senator diff to Omega gearbox?

Basically... ignoring cooling, wiring, mounting... will a Saab 2.3 turbo mate with a Senator gearbox, or how far back would you have to swap components?

This has nothing to do with a non-running 3.0 Senator B I've got wind of...

The Senny box will not bolt up to a V6, although a Carlton 2.0 box will.
You should be able to use an Omega or Senator propshaft as the Carlton, Senator and Omega all use the same box, although the straight six has a different bell housing bolt pattern to the 2.0 and V6.

I have just found a spare 24v engine about 5 miles from me. I think that's fate...

Won't touch a 24v straight six unless its had its timing chains done. The chains and 90% of the parts are not available anymore

Im sure a set of Peter Harrison uprated chains could be sourced if necessary!   :y

Chains aren't the issue. The guides are NLS

Current owner of it is considering the spare engine as a possibility. I'm torn between wanting the project and knowing that it won't really fit with shift work... oh for a Euromillions ticket ;)

Oh the chains aren't the problem but like Dave has said the giudes, sprockets, bolts etc are all NLS.

I've a 24v in the workshop at the moment that i've spent the last year or so collecting parts for thats going an S1 Monza with a 5 speed box

Sounds like a good project Andy.

The guides are starting to come up on ebay now but to be fair they are extremely pricey - about £200 for a curved guide.

It's for exactly that reason I'm building a 2.6/3.0 12v hybrid engine - no worries about guide failure or chain breakages!
