Don't panic! ....... Mr Mainwaring. How long has it taken you to do 41k miles. I'm sure that Vauxhall were being exteremely over cautious when they halved the belt change interval. Still .... I'd want it done sooner rather than later. ;)  :y

I assume the twin cam 4 pots are pretty similar across the Vx range. I did my wife's Astra 16v in an hour or so, didn't rush at all. I reckon it could easily be done in half that - didn't do the water pump though. I'm sure you could do it cheaper all in all - including time off the road from taxiing - than by paying someone else.

Nah thats not the reason.......the admins kicked him off OOF coz he sold his omega and bought one of those disco thingies....... :o

Only jesting......James had his reasons for leaving OOF.......

Seriously if I take it too the garage.....they'll prob take an hour to change it with the waterpump........i'll take all day.......by the time ive double checked everything.........so money wise........im probably better off letting the garage do it  :-/

40k or 4 years ,which ever comes first lizzie,i think the tensioners tend to break up anytime after this. :y

Was never 60k - was 80k at one point, reduced to 40k due to excessive failures.  Many dealers still quote 80k - they are stupid, ill informed pillocks.

Agree with TB........dunno about a Carlton........but Omega are 40k.....was 80k but got reduced.....think it depends on vx model tho........my mate has a veccyC diesel......thats still a 80k change.....so as said i think it depends on the vx model you have  :y

Many thanks for all this; I have definately learnt something to my advantage today.  Just proves the worth of this site; I would have been quite happily driving my car/cam belt to 60k (and that's what I was told by Patchway Motors in Bristol during about 1998) and BANG!!...no engine...no car!! :'( :'(

I can now avoid this :D

Love to all Lizzie Zoom :y :y

The 8 valve engines (as used in the Carlton etc) were pretty safe to 60K miles and that was the service interval for them.

TD, you could always pop to Telford and change your belt etc this weekend with some supervision and a little help.....
