Title: remote fob
Post by: m12cdk on 23 September 2012, 10:10:04
Is there anyone local to me that can solder my fob or knows somewhere that can. I thought it was just the battery but when i took the key apart it seems like its come away in one place? I had this before with my old omega so im guessing it just needs re-soldering. chris

Whether its worth doing depends on the state of the fob.

Easy enough to do - best way to resolder the holder it extend the battery leg (it likely has broken) with a bit of thin, stiff wire, this will help regain some mechanical strength.  If a 3 button facelift, replace all 3 switches at the same time. Switches available at OOF shop (£3 for 3), or Farnell at 67p + VAT each.

If the rubber cover has gone, I'd just buy a new fob from dealer, and get it programmed, as all the Ebay replacement cases are utter shite.

We used to have a member who did them for a charge. As he no longer comes on, not sure I can recommend him any more.

It's a common issue with older Vx. keys that the battery holder becomes detached from the circuit board, usually you can 'fix' them with a folded piece of card placed between the battery and the keyfob case.

I had to solder a new boot release button into my keyfob recently, it's not hard to do...

Indeed, I've done a fair few myself, whilst its not hard, it still needs a steady hand, and a decent iron. If you are not confident, I'd probably recommend getting a friend who can solder to do it :y
