Title: How to remove gearbox gaitor
Post by: SMD on 23 September 2012, 11:46:29
chrisgixer done this in seconds but didn't watch him so anyone else know?

Mr gear lever rattles and squeaks, particulary over bumps and rough ground so was thinking of spraying it with WD40. Would this be ok to do?

Grab leather at front of lever, in both corners, and pull up.

Refit is get rear of gaitor in, and press the front in last.

WD40 is not a lubricant.

Find what causes the rattle, and fix that.

I'll go for a drive with the gaitor off, see if I can find anything.

Have you had this in any of your cars?

Someone suggested elastic band (like those that comes with phone chargers) and put it over the bit you pull up to select reverse. This bit, if loose, can cause it to rattle again the gearknob. Didnt work for me though, mine seems to originate from under the gaitor.

My rattle was caused by an out-of-round rear wheel.
