Title: Metallic rattle on 2.2 auto
Post by: markru on 23 September 2012, 15:43:07
Hi. I am new to the forum.

I have a metallic rattle coming from the engine area. It is not noticable when the bonnet is up and I rev the engine. In fact the engine sounds sweet as anything. As soon as I set off, it starts. If I am coasting or cruising, no rattle. If I put my foot down it increases with the engine revs. It does not go away with temperature increase.

I have treated the oil with Halfords lifter additive, no real change. Seemed quieter when I first added it but that might have been wishful thinking on my part.

Car has done 115K, full service history, cambelt changed (full Vauxhall kit) last week.

I had the 2.5 V6 and it was the exhaust but that used to go away at operating temperature.

Any tips and ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Mark :)

Had a quiet rattle on mine which turned out to be heat exhaust heat shield - used a couple of washer to secure where the hole was slightly enlarged.
