As you may already know im looking for an MV6 3.0 or 3.2 manual. The reason im looking for a 3.0 or 3.2 is because of there power output. (207-217bhp) I have been looking at ALOT of MV6 2.6 V6 manuals with nice spec and been turned of buying one because of there bhp (176)
My question is, if i was to buy a 2.6 v6 manual :
1. What kind of mods would i need to reach 200bhp or over?
2. Would it cost much?
Cheers

3 litre cams and a bit of porting / polishing will give you about another 20 bhp on a good engine.
You might get a better responce if you get this moved across to General Car Chat :y

Will the 3 litre cams just fit in? Will the timing have to be adjusted after these are fitted?
Is there any way the cats can be removed/altered and still be able to pass MOT? Id obviously be sorting out induction aswell.

You should be able to post anywhere apart from Cars For Sale, as thats a 250 requirement.
If you cannot post in General Discussion or General Chat, PM an admin.

Cams will drop straight in.
Ignition timing is set via the ecu so no adjustment needed.
No mechanical adjustment needed as long as the cam belt is fitted and all pullys are set up properly.
There are 2 or 3 lads on here who know these engines inside out so take there word as gospel.
As for induction, forget cone filters, cold air kits or anything like that.
The oil that you get will screw up the maf.
The standard airbox with a genuine vauxhall filter is more then good enough for these engines.
A good service makes alot of a difference to these engines. Breathers / plugs / leads filters ect :y
Keep the cats for the mot.
In fact, these engines tend to like a little back pressure so most people tend to keep them.
Oh, you need iirc 250 posts to post in the for sale section. All the other sections should be open to you now ;)

beat me by 23 seconds ::) ;D ;D

Cheers for the info/advice. Could admin move this over to the proper section please. Thanks

Surely bypassing the oem airbox with a decent aftermarket filter will make a difference?
What oil will screw up the afm?

Its sure will. It will reduce performance. So probably best stick to OE ;)

Why will it reduce performance ?

K&N ect tend to give you a can of light oil to spray onto the foam of the cone filter.
Its this oil that holds onto the dirt and makes the filter effective.
Problem is, the oil will work its way past the foam and end up on the maf which will in turn knacker it ;)
The V6's airbox is a sealed unit so no warm air from around the hot engine can get in. It has a feed pipe which draws nice cold air from just infront of the radiator :y
Experience has found that the OEM Vauxhall filters have more then enough surface area too feed the engine and more bhp :y
At the end of the day, the colder the air the more dence it is so you can get more into the engine ;)

Air intake mods make no difference at all, especially to a 2.6, which uses exactly the same intake as a 3.2, so it won't be restrictive developing 40BHP less. ;)
If performance is really important, I would be holding out for a 3.0/3.2, TBH. They are significantly quicker than the 2.5/2.6 and no messing about will be required (except that for a 3.2 manual you'll need an ex-police car or convert it from auto).

Cheers for the advice dude :y. I know the filters and the oil and have been using it down through the years on m3, skyline, evo and other various high performance cars ive owned. Never had any problems with afm's. But i will take your advice and stick with oem :y :y
So is the cams the only mod i can do to a 2.6 v6 to get more bhp?

Drift Tramp - if you want the power, start with the 3.0/3.2, as it has the power to start with :)
-
As Kevin Wood and TheBoy says tbh.
If your looking at drifting, some say you have a better throttle response off the 3 ltr :y
If you start with a 3 ltr, a pair of 2.6 / 3.2's exhaust manifolds will help (better flow) :y
As will a general bit of cleaning / porting if your handy with a dremmil ;)
I also believe that by using the 3 ltr's inlet cams as exhaust cams, you may get it to breath a little better too :y

I reckon the higher CR of the 3.0l might make it easier to improve, eg by improving fanimold.
The low CR of 3.2 is expensive to raise. But supposedly has a stronger crank.
:-\

You can still get the 3.0 chip fron Irmscher if you're that power hungry ::)
It's pricey though :-\
