Title: Gutless rubbish
Post by: Del Boy on 25 September 2012, 17:47:31
Bought a few Fiat Puntos lately (well I say I, but my son took the reigns and got them), and went to pick them up this morning, all '12' Plates, they were all cheap so didn't really bother reading the Spec's on them. Got in one this morning and oh deary me, what an absolutely awful engine! Driving them about, from the pick up point to my place, couldn't help but notice how slow they really are  :o. Didn't take note of the engine size, but I was thinking a 1.0, or at the very most a rubbish 1.2, to my amazement getting them back to my place and realising they were 1.4's shocked the life out of me. They are so slow it's unreal, they do a 1.4 16v, I've the the 8v, so if anyone is after a Punto, don't buy a 1.4 8v, or a 1.2 because they are pathetic.

Although terribly slow, they're quite well equipped, and the city steering thing is cool, however it does feel like a Fiat inside ;D.

You want to try an 1100 52 plate Seicento  ;)  ;)  ;) Not only are they slow, but you keep having to look at your feet to find the pedals ... they're small & off-set to the left ... & the clutch itself is ON or OFF with little in between.

Still .........  my daughter loves it for her independance, so that's all that matters.  :y :y :y

But i bet it uses only a thimble full of fuel a week with its puny engine  :-\

Find that surprising... SWMBO has an 09 Panda 1.2 and it's reasonably nippy, as long as you bear in mind it's a 1.2 ::)

It's great on fuel in town (45-60mpg :o :o) but on a run it's actually cheaper (and quicker ::)) to take my LPG Omega :D

Worse than each & every one of my 520d's both around town, and on the motorway. You sit at 70 MPH, it's nearing 4,000 RPM, it's a screamer too.

They are a quick car, shame the engine has to come out every 60k for a cambelt change :-X,I would have the 16V turbo, nearly as quick but easier to work on :y
