Which ATF should I buy to renew my autobox fluid???
I have read on this site Dexron VI and also Fuchs and also Dexron 3
Confused???...can anyone help please???????????
Also how much??
-
Dex 3. While all Dexron is said to be back compatatible. I wouldn't introduce unknowns personally. 3 is proven.
ESP given the the tis updates on pas Dex 2, where 3 was used, and the pipes leaked. So pas was downgraded to two again.
-
Is it worth getting from trade club... and how much?
-
On which Dex 3. All dexron oil is supposed to match a certain grade. 3 in this case, so all Dexron 3 should be the same. However I can't bring my self to use that coma shite in my car.
Fuchs Titan range for Dex 3 is usually generally recomended on oof. Cirtainly was recomended to me anyway.
Trouble is coma is freely available, and Fuchs is very difficult to find locally IME.
-
Reliable source is Opie as listed in the For Sale section if you want Fuchs or similar.
Most factors sell cheaper brands, but most members use Titan DexIII.
-
Not on tc.
Dealer is very expensive for Dex iirc.
Try a factors.
-
And IME while Opie are good at claiming to offer great deals, this is not usually the case "IME"
There is little they don't stock though.
-
Is that Fuchs titan 3 longlife 5-30 oil ????

NO! That's an engine oil and will knacker an automatic gearbox in short order.
What you're looking for is Fuchs Titan ATF 4000.

Why do you call it so? All Dex 3 should match a specification provided by GM. Is it just a brand image thing?
Unless you can prove Comma is poor in performance or gives trouble in use, it like saying I cant bring myself to use the ASDA paracetamol. I only use Anadin/other branded paracetamol. In the latter case at least the only difference being more revenue to the Anadin manufacturer and no real performance benefit.

Comma Dex 3 ok for Vx autoboxes :y It is to the Dex 3 spec.
Later Dex specs are backwards compatible with Dex3 :y Includes Dex 6 :y

Once again D your picking an argument on something we actually agree on. Read it as you like, but I agree fully with what your saying in principle.
However, its my car, and i will install whatever product is I see fit. ;)
Hopefully between us we will help the op to make his own mind up, and he can install as he sees fit.
As said, again, all Dexron 3 should meet the exact same spec. You could argue that the cheaper stuff is inferior or fairly priced, or you could argue that the expensive stuff is over priced or somehow better quality...
Personally, for the sake of a few quid, like tyres, I'd rather play safe. But that's MY choice. :)
-
Regards back compatible, yes that's true according to GM.
However what do we think regarding the Dex 2 pas issue? Where tis specifies that Dex 3 is NOT used, due to 3 causing leaking pas pipes?
Tis may be wrong, miss informed entry, some other anomoly caused the leak, whatever.
Or it may be correct. Play safe IMO.
Presumably the price rises with the Dex number too?

Having had Titan 4000 and Comma in the same car, I reckon the Titan 4000 gave a smoother change. Possibly placebo. But as similarly priced, although not as conveniently available, I know what I'd shove in.
Not all oils are the same, be it engine oil or ATF. Castrol Magnatec meets the spec for my engine, but I think most members know I wouldn't even let it go in the lawnmower, let alone my cars.

Seems about the norm - around £50 for the 2 bottles you need.
-
I do find Opie expensive, at £66 for two 5 litre bottles, and presumably postage on top.?
Yet to look at their adverts you'd think they where doing us all a big favour.

Opie are an option. Not necessarily always the best (unless on offer), but an option.
So no need to use every opportunity to knock them.

From Unipart Automotive in Kingston - got 10 litres for £43.20 +£8.64 vat = £51.84
There are loads of Uniparts arouind the country so there is bound to be one near everyone I guess and can't see why the price would change....should be the same everywhere

aye...? £16 over the odds...?
fact is they are a very expensive option presented freely on here, and everywhere else, as a good deal, when it clearly plain as day is not. Over hyped and misleading adverts IMO. As the one above proves, no?

It is an option. In the same way Halfords is an option for some.
I have certainly bought ATF from Opie before, as it was the cheapest I could get. Granted, it was when they had an offer on.
