Can't link to it as on phone but he's signed with Mercedes. Perez gets his seat at McLaren.
He'll be paid more but claims that wasn't a factor in his decision ::)

Just read this http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/19755236

Thanks. :y

Nothing to do with winning.
More to do with money plus image rights ::)
-
Well I wish him good luck. Maybe Mercedes will deliver a car capable of winning.
Perez will keep Button honest for sure. ;D ;D
-
It is his career, but so much for loyalty :( :( Is it because he's black ;D ;D ;D
I thought that Di Resta would have got Hamiltons' seat, but Perez is quick and McLaren will deliver a car to beat Mercedes. Personally I hope that Hamilton lives to regret this move and that Button finds new vigour. :D
-
I remember when JB went to maclaren it was generally thought that Lewis would bury him,its not quite worked out that way as since Button joined up there is only 6 points difference between them and I believe that Maclaren now favour Button anyway.I wonder how much that has affected his decision on leaving ???
-
We shouldnt forget that McLaren have let him doen very badly, several times this season (and last season iirc). If it wasnt for his car problems he would be leading the championship by miles.I dont blame him in the slightest for wanting to move.He is imo the best out there and is right to go where he believes he will get the best results.
Problem is,unless he knows something the rest of us dont, that place is unlikely to be Mercedes.Should have waited another year imo.
-
I agree that he's probably the fastest driver out there but that alone doesn't always win races.
-
I think hes probably the most complete driver out there tbh.The only one in the same league imo is Alonso, but Hamilton made him look quite ordinary when they were team mates, despite him being a rookie and Alonso being a double world champion.
-
I think he should have stayed really, as above McLaren took him on board from an early age. Wonder if he would have signed this contract if he won the Signapore GP?
He also had a good team mate with Button, although don't think he will have any issues with Nico.
Good on Perez though, big move for him :)

Aren't there new turbo engine regs in 2014? In which case Mercedes no doubt will already be developing their engine.
Bodes well for next year. Four top drivers in four top teams (Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel and Perez)

Which they sell to McLaren, unless they change engine suppliers. The last time we had turbos Renault engines were at the top of the game IIRC
-
McLaren get their engines free from Mercedes, have done for several years. I believe the agreement runs out at the end of this season though.
Its possible that Hamilton has been very shrewd and Mercs will be dominant in the new turbo era,but I have my doubts tbh.
There are many possible reasons why hes jumping ship (some of them very valid ones) but I dont think an obviously more competitive car will be one of them.
Time will tell I suppose.
-
Yep the engines have ben supplied free up until the end of this season. Mclaren will have to pay for them next year.
We will just have to wait until March to see how it all pans out, cars that were good this season can be a dog the next. I can't see Mercedes being in the top three teams next season which will be Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren they will be in the mix with Williams, Sauber, Force India and perhaps Lotus
To speculate for 2014 and looking at the Renault turbo's past performances then Red Bull, Lotus, Williams and Caterham are currently supplied by Renault. Williams might see a return to the glory days :y
He's jumping ship for one reason MONEY :(

I'd love to see it but I don't think the funding is there to do it :-\
-
This was the year he had to move, due to contracts.
It like Hamilton. He's one of the few prepared to take the little chances presented on track, even if they are risky, and frequently don't work out.
Button is in the Henman category for me.
I think its a good move for him, overall. I think Merc offer better prospects than McLaren, although any Newey designed car is always good, so they will still trail the Redbulls IMHO
-
Schumacher back at Ferrari?
He wouldn't be any slower than Massa! Don't know if Alonso would care. ;D

A surprising and interesting fact - Hamilton is McClarens only driver to have wont the title since Hakkinen in 1999.
As TB alluded to,anyone not driving a Newey designed car is at a distinct disadvantage, which is why if Hamilton was going to move he might have been better to instruct his management to try to shove Webber out of the Red Bull at the end of next season. Unless Vettel has them by the nads and insists on a team mate who isnt a serious threat to him, which wouldnt surprise me tbh.
I also doubt that his management understand the intricacies of F1 anyway.Hes managed by Simon Fuller and his showbiz buddies, who managed the spice girls, and I believe also manage Hamiltons Girlfriend.
It would be a shame if he/they became motor racings Beckhams - A very lucrative brand,a showbiz couple who are famous for the sake of it,but with an unfullfilled potential* & patchy track record in what they originally became famous for. :(
Imo Hamilton has shown some worrying signs (since sacking his dad as his manager) of becoming somewhat spoilt, petulant, and just a little too big for his boots. Possibly surrounded by showbiz type yes men who constantly tell him how wonderful he is ? :-\
* Not much potential to fulfill in the female half of either partnership. ::)

Well, given the choice I'd... Wait.. You meant the other type of potential, didn't you? ::)
Time will tell, I guess. Might even be interesting enough for me to watch a few GPs next season.. Or perhaps not. :-\

This has nothing to do with racing cars and everything to do with money, merchandising and image rights!! ::) As Albs has pointed out Simon Fuller is Hamilton's manager... Nuff said!! ::)

Perez is a very good move by McLaren, not only is he very fast, he seems to be a down to earth humble, nice guy.
He brings lots of sponsorship with him and if Vodaphone as rumored don't renew their sponsorship, then Perez's manger's dad probably will. One Calos Slim who just happens to be the richest man in the world. He made his fortune in South American telecoms.
