Replacing the drop links and I turn the 18mm nut and it turns and turns ... any idea how I hold the shaft still?
-
17mm spanner on the flats on theother side of the ARB/Strut :y
If needs be keep turning the 18mm nut until the spanner slips on :y
-
Good news ....erm guess which is the only spanner size I don't have!!!!!
-
An adjustable would work, but a much tighter fit :y
-
Thanks for your help I will hopefully get it done... I am doing both sides and wishbones and strut top mounts and ATF in the autobox so going to be busy .... see my other post about a stuck and very stubborn autobox sump bolt ... blooming thing!

Depending on how long the drop links have been on you may need to have plenty of penetrating oil/spray handy. Also ref. adjustable spanner, you may not be able to get on to the flats due to the extra width ! have just done mine and they fought all the way !!!
-
It's not uncommon to have to cut them off with a disc cutter.
Also, some makes have an Allen key in the ball joint end instead. Just in case.

I had to cut off the nut on one of mine with a hacksaw :y

Yeah my girlfriends Citroen ZX has those type and I had to cut both of them off, crap design >:(
I don`t think Omega ones will be on long enough to need cutting off, I usually have to replace them every couple of years ;D
-
Got the old ones off eventually and will be fitting Meyle ones but notice that they don't have any flats on them to hold the shaft as you tighten the nut
Anyone had experience of these?
-
Yes, you insert an allen key into the centre of them rather than use flats.....pop some grease in the allen key recess once you have fitted them :y

Well if you hadnt told me I wouldnt have noticed...thanks will check mine out
-
You are spot on ... many thanks would have been cursing for hours!!!

With the Meyle ones, might be worth sticking something on the thread, to make it easier to dismantle when they fail.
