Title: Stat replacement
Post by: jonny2112 on 01 October 2012, 14:03:14
All going ok ish, but couldn't understand why the bolts wouldn't tighten. Now realise the stat base plate is much shallower on the replacement. Does anyone know if there are shorter fittings to allow for this? Or is it a case of using washers to make up the difference?

Yes, that part needs shorter bolts. You can either cut down the original bolts (from memory they are about 5mm too long) or add spacers under the bolts.

It's also possible to transfer the thermostat to the old housing but probably best not to if there's any pitting or heavy corrosion of the old housing, as it may not seal.
