i have wired an aftermarket sterio into my glovebox so its out of sight and doesnt ruin the look of the dash so ive disconnected the original 2006 cd player. but i want the lights to still illuminate of the original at night so the dash looks normal is there a way i can do this. could i cut the battery live and leave the ignition live connected. it has a fault and keeps draining the battery hense me wiring in an aftermarket one.

Yes, but no matter how you wire it in, a faulty stereo is a faulty stereo, and I wouldn`t guarantee that your battery drain would dissappear !!
:-X
-
but if i only wired it to the ignition live it then cant drain my battery?
-
Then remove ALL connections from the head unit, including aerial plugs, display connectors, top iso block, and ALL feeds to lower block with the exception of earth and ignition live.
IMHO not worth the effort.
-
Just leave the 0V and illumination wire connected (might also need permanent live connected, cant recall if the panel lighting is driven directly from the light feed or switched).

Permenent live would leave you open to Battery drain -
remember the stereo is faulty ;)

Why not replace the OE radio with A N Other OE radio, either the same or an upgrade of ....... ??? That'd be the easiest. ;)

Too easy I guess :-X

I want an ipod attached to my cd player and I have an expensive single din stereo at hand but they look crap in the double.din slot and and aftermarket double dins dont look right in the dash. Ive left the earth the ign live and the illumination wired in and after 5 mins of locking the car theres no live to the radio so no drain

Get a fascia panel of egay for a single unit but fits into a double din space use that!! :y same time youll have a empty glovebox to keep your nobbys nuts in ;D ;D :y
-
Also on a serious note having the stereo in the glove compartment will mean openig and closing more? Tbh and im sure most will agree, them glovebox latches are shite and a matter of time before they snap off! :y

Good point luckily I can control my stereo with the ipod volume tracks etc until I find a nice oe looking double din il leave it like this
